Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test

UPTET Study Material

The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is the state-level eligibility test for anyone who wants to teach Classes 1 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh government and aided schools. The 2026 cycle was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, which has taken over the test from the earlier examination authority. Paper 1 qualifies you for the primary level (Classes 1 to 5) and Paper 2 for the upper primary level (Classes 6 to 8).

The UPTET 2026 written exam was held on 2, 3 and 4 July 2026, the result was declared on 26 August 2026, and eligibility certificates were issued from 7 September 2026. This page sums up the 2026 cycle, the exam pattern, eligibility, qualifying marks and certificate rules, and what to do if you are preparing for the next regular cycle, for which no official date has been announced yet.

Where the UPTET Cycle Stands Now

The regular UPTET 2026 cycle is complete. Results and certificates are out, and the Commission opened a certificate correction facility in late September 2026. UPESSC also formed a five-member committee in September 2026 to examine representations from candidates about the result.

Separately, UPESSC has notified a Special TET 2026 (Advertisement 03/2026) for in-service teachers and eligible CWSN special teachers, with the exam scheduled for 3 November 2026. It is not open to fresh candidates. If you are a fresh aspirant, your next chance is the next regular UPTET. Its notification date has not been announced, so treat any date you see elsewhere as unofficial until UPESSC publishes it.

UPTET 2026 Result Statistics

The 2026 exam was held at 955 centres across 60 districts. The figures below are the result statistics as reported at the time of the result declaration.

A high pass rate does not make the next cycle easy. Pass rates in UPTET have swung widely between cycles, so prepare to clear the qualifying mark with a clear margin, not to scrape through.

Eligibility Summary

Educational qualification

  • Paper 1 (Classes 1 to 5): Graduation with a two-year D.El.Ed (BTC) or an equivalent NCTE or RCI-recognised diploma, or 10+2 with 50% marks and a four-year B.El.Ed. Final-year candidates can apply.

  • Paper 2 (Classes 6 to 8): Graduation with D.El.Ed (BTC), or graduation or post-graduation with 50% marks and B.Ed (45% under the applicable NCTE norms), or 10+2 with 50% marks and a four-year integrated course such as B.A.Ed, B.Sc.Ed or B.El.Ed. Final-year candidates can apply.

  • B.Ed and Paper 1: The position of B.Ed holders at the primary level has been affected by court rulings. Read the eligibility page before you apply for Paper 1 with a B.Ed.

Age limit and other conditions

UPTET is an eligibility test, not a recruitment exam, and the 2026 notification as reported did not set an upper age limit for appearing. Age limits apply later, at the teacher recruitment stage. Reservation benefits apply only to candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh.

Application Fee and How to Apply

Category

Fee per paper (2026 cycle)

General, OBC, EWS

Rs. 1,000

SC, ST

Rs. 500

Persons with Disabilities

Rs. 300

Candidates who want both levels apply for both papers and pay the fee for each. The fee for the next cycle may change, so check the new notification.

  1. Register: Complete one-time registration on the UPESSC application portal linked from the official website.

  2. Fill the form: Choose the paper or papers, the Language II option and enter your qualification details exactly as on your marksheets.

  3. Upload documents: Upload a recent photograph and signature in the format the notification specifies.

  4. Pay and submit: Pay online, then download and keep the confirmation page.

Common reasons for trouble later include a qualification that does not match the chosen paper, a name or date of birth that differs from your certificates, and photographs that do not meet the specification.

UPTET Exam Pattern

Both papers have 150 multiple-choice questions of one mark each, a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes and no negative marking. Language I is Hindi; for Language II you choose English, Urdu or Sanskrit. The question paper is in Hindi and English, except for the language sections.

What this means for you

  • Attempt every question: With no negative marking, a blank answer can only cost you marks.

  • Child Development and Pedagogy carries weight in both papers: Thirty marks of pedagogy also appear inside the language and subject sections, so pedagogy is the single highest-return area.

  • Normalisation may apply: The 2026 exam ran in multiple shifts, and the Commission used normalisation as provided in the notification. Your final score may differ slightly from your raw answer-key score.

Older pages may still show outdated application dates or the previous examination authority, so follow the latest UPESSC notification.

Qualifying Marks and Certificate

UPTET has no merit list for jobs. You either qualify or you do not. General category candidates need at least 60% (90 out of 150). Reserved categories, including SC, ST, OBC, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen and dependants of freedom fighters, need 55%. Details, including the 2026 pass percentages, are on the UPTET cut-off and qualifying marks page.

The UPTET eligibility certificate is valid for life from the date of the result. It makes you eligible to apply for teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh; it does not give you a job by itself. Recruitment happens through a separate selection process announced by the state.

How to Prepare for the Next UPTET

  1. Start with pedagogy: Build Child Development and Pedagogy first, because it is common to both papers and to every teaching exam.

  2. Fix your Language II early: Pick English, Urdu or Sanskrit based on your strongest language, and practise its grammar and pedagogy questions weekly.

  3. Cover your subject section: For Paper 1, Maths and EVS at Classes 1 to 5 level; for Paper 2, either Maths and Science or Social Studies at Classes 6 to 8 level.

  4. Make short notes: Keep one-page summaries of theories, thinkers and grammar rules for quick revision.

  5. Practise full papers: Take timed mocks in the 150-question format and review every wrong answer the same day.
