UPTET Cut-off 2026: Category-wise Qualifying Marks

What the UPTET Cut-off Means

The UPTET cut-off is a fixed qualifying mark, not a rank-based cut-off that moves with competition. If you reach the qualifying percentage for your category in Paper 1 or Paper 2, you receive the UPTET eligibility certificate for that level. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) conducted the 2026 cycle and declared the result on 26 August 2026.

This page gives the category-wise qualifying marks, the 2026 pass percentages, how earlier cycles compare, and how to set a target score that keeps you safely above the line. Teacher recruitment exams that use the UPTET certificate have their own separate cut-offs.

The same rule applies to Paper 1 and Paper 2. Some reports show the 55% mark as 82 out of 150, so check the rounding rule in the official notification. The treatment of EWS candidates has also been reported differently, so confirm it in the next notification. Reserved-category relaxation applies only to candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh.

The qualifying marks stayed the same, but the share of candidates clearing them changed sharply. Pass rates depend on the difficulty of the paper and on normalisation, not on the number of seats. Treat the 2026 figures as a benchmark only, and do not assume the next paper will be as forgiving.

What Affects Your Chances of Qualifying

  • Paper difficulty: A harder paper means fewer candidates reach a fixed mark, as the 2021 cycle showed.

  • Shift and normalisation: When the exam runs in several shifts, scores are normalised, which can move your final score slightly up or down.

  • Subject section strength: In Paper 2, the 60-question subject section decides most outcomes.

  • Pedagogy accuracy: Pedagogy questions appear across sections, so weak pedagogy pulls down the whole score.

How to Set Your Target Score

  • Aim for a margin: Target at least 100 out of 150 in mocks if you are General, and at least 95 if you are in a 55% category, so a tough paper or normalisation does not push you below the line.

  • Track by section: A safe split is about 22 to 24 out of 30 in each 30-question section, and about 40 out of 60 in the Paper 2 subject section.

  • Use full mocks: Practise in the same 150-question, 150-minute format so your mock score is a fair guide.
