State Government Recruitment

ADRE Class 3

ADRE Class 3 is a recruitment exam, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.

ADRE Class 3 Study Material

The ADRE Class 3 exam, officially the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination for Grade III (Class-III) posts, is the common written test the Government of Assam uses to fill analogous Grade III posts across its departments. It is run by the State Level Recruitment Commission for Class-III Posts (SLRC), set up under the Assam Direct Recruitment Commissions for Analogous Posts in Class-III and Class-IV Act, 2021. The written exam and online applications are handled with the state school board (SEBA, now part of the Assam State School Education Board).

As of October 2026, the next cycle, widely called ADRE 3.0, has not been notified. This page therefore uses the last completed cycle (advertisement of 30 October 2023, written exam in September 2024, final result in October 2025) as the reference, and marks anything about 2026 as expected. It covers the papers by level, eligibility, Assam-specific GK, past cut-offs and a preparation plan.

ADRE 3.0 Notification Status

No official advertisement for ADRE 3.0 Grade III posts had been published on the Assam government portal as of 11 October 2026. Vacancy figures of 5,000 to 15,000 posts and "early 2027" timelines are circulating on news and job sites, but none of them comes from an SLRC notice. Treat them as speculation until the advertisement is out.

What is reasonably safe to plan around is the structure of the previous cycle. The 2023 advertisement was followed by separate exam notices that fixed the paper format, and the format stayed stable through the exam. If the next cycle keeps the same structure, the pattern and syllabus below will apply. If it changes, the notification will say so, and this page will be updated.

ADRE Class 3 Eligibility

Educational qualification

  • Bachelor's degree level: a bachelor's degree, usually with a computer certificate or diploma of at least six months. Some posts also need a stenography certificate, and library posts need a degree in Library Science with a computer certificate.

  • HSSLC level: Class 12 (HSSLC) or equivalent; a few posts ask for HSSLC in Science.

  • HSLC level: Class 10 (HSLC) or equivalent plus a valid LMV driving licence, for Driver posts.

Age limit

In the last cycle, candidates had to be 18 to 40 years old as on 1 January 2023. Age is counted only from the HSLC admit card or pass certificate. The reference date for ADRE 3.0 will be set in the new advertisement.

Other conditions

  • Citizenship: Indian citizen.

  • Employment exchange: a valid registration number with an employment exchange in Assam was mandatory in the last cycle.

  • Serving employees: need a No Objection Certificate from their head of department at the skill test or document verification stage.

  • Small family norm: a Form A declaration under the Assam small family norms rules was required at verification.

The 2023 advertisement did not list a separate Assamese language test or a permanent resident certificate, although several guides mention them. Check the ADRE 3.0 advertisement for any local language or domicile clause.

Application Fee and How to Apply

There was no application fee for any category in the last cycle. Applications were online only, through assam.gov.in and sebaonline.org.

  1. Register: fill in personal details, employment exchange number and contact details.

  2. Choose the level and post category that matches your relevant qualification.

  3. Upload documents: a recent passport-size photograph and a scanned signature in the specified size.

  4. Submit and save: note the application number and password; they are needed for the admit card and result.

Submitted forms could not be edited in the last cycle, so check every field before you submit. Common problems are a wrong date of birth, a missing employment exchange number and choosing a level you are not qualified for.

ADRE Grade 3 Exam Pattern

Each level has one written paper of 150 objective questions in 3 hours. The marks differ because the graduate paper has 25 two-mark questions.

Level

Questions

Marks

Time

HSSLC level

150 x 1 mark

150

3 hours

Bachelor's degree level

125 x 1 mark + 25 x 2 marks

175

3 hours

HSLC level (Driver)

150 x 1 mark

150

3 hours

A wrong answer costs one quarter of that question's marks, and marking more than one option counts as wrong. Shortlisted candidates then took a skill test of 25 marks where the post required it.

What this means for you:

  • Speed matters: you get about 72 seconds per question, so drill quick recall for GK and Social Studies.

  • Guess with care: a pure guess among four options roughly breaks even, but eliminating even one option makes an attempt worth taking.

  • Graduate aspirants: the 25 reading comprehension questions carry 50 of 175 marks, so English reading practice pays off.

Syllabus Summary

The SLRC exam notices fix the number of questions and marks but do not publish a detailed topic list. The subject split below is the one widely reported for the 2024 papers and matches the official totals. Use it as a working checklist.

Selection Process

  1. Written exam: one objective paper at your level; it decides the merit order.

  2. Skill test (where applicable): computer, stenography or driving test for posts that require it.

  3. Document verification: original certificates, caste and PwBD certificates, NOC for serving employees.

  4. Allotment: selected candidates are allotted posts in merit order, with reservation applied; within the same grade pay, departments were allotted by draw of lots in the last cycle.

Salary

Pay depends on the post. The 2023 advertisement said post-wise pay band and grade pay would be published separately, and the department-wise vacancy list carried those figures. Check the post list in the new advertisement rather than relying on a single figure from a third-party page.

How to Prepare for ADRE Class 3

  • Start with Assam: build notes on Assam history, geography, culture, literature and personalities first, since they feed both Social Studies and GK.

  • Keep maths and reasoning daily: 45 to 60 minutes of arithmetic and reasoning sets keeps your speed up for the 50 to 55 questions in these two sections.

  • Read English daily: graduate candidates should do at least one comprehension passage a day.

  • Add current affairs: keep monthly notes on Assam and national news from the last 12 months.

  • Move to full papers: in the final two months, take 150-question timed papers every few days and review every mistake.

For organised material, the ADRE Grade 3 study notes on Testkart cover Assam GK and core subjects in revision-friendly form. When you move to timed practice, attempt ADRE Grade 3 online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan revision.

Previous Cut-off Reference

The written exam cut-off is set post code by post code and category by category. For the September 2024 exam, the reported unreserved cut-off was 119.50 out of 150 for HSSLC posts, 137.75 out of 175 for the general bachelor's degree post code, and 127.50 out of 150 for Driver posts. Cut-offs change with difficulty and vacancies, so treat these as benchmarks only.
