Eligibility
The full rules, with the reasons candidates are most often rejected, are on the AFMC Nursing eligibility page. The summary below follows the 2026 notification as reported.
Nationality, gender and marital status
Only female Indian citizens can apply. You must be unmarried, divorced, legally separated or a widow without encumbrances.
Age limit
For 2026, you must have been born between 1 October 2001 and 30 September 2009, both dates inclusive. The date of birth must match your Class 10 certificate.
Educational qualification
You need 10+2 or equivalent passed in the first attempt from a recognised board, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology) and English, and at least 50% aggregate in these subjects. Check the notification for exactly how the aggregate is calculated.
NEET UG and physical standards
Qualifying NEET UG of the same year is compulsory. The minimum height is 152 cm, relaxed to 147 cm for candidates from hill and North Eastern regions, and you must be declared medically fit by a Special Medical Board.
Application fee and how to apply
Category | Fee |
|---|---|
UR, OBC and EWS | Rs. 200 (online payment) |
SC and ST | Nil (valid certificate required) |
Register: Create an account on the Join Indian Army portal with a valid email ID, which becomes your user ID.
Fill the form: Enter personal, academic and NEET UG details exactly as they appear on your documents.
Upload: Add your photograph, signature and any certificates asked for, such as an SC or ST certificate or an NCC 'C' certificate.
Review before you submit: Changes are not allowed after submission, so check every field.
Pay and save: Pay the fee online, note the bank reference number, and download the confirmation page with your registration number.
Common reasons for rejection are a date of birth that does not match the Class 10 certificate, NEET details entered wrongly, missing category proof and duplicate applications.
Exam pattern and selection stages
There is no separate written entrance exam of the old type. NEET UG decides who is shortlisted, and shortlisted candidates then go through screening, which recent cycles have held at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. Confirm the venue on your call letter.
Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
NEET UG | Shortlisting on the basis of your NEET UG score |
Document verification | Original documents are checked |
ToGIGE | Computer-based Test of General Intelligence and General English |
Psychological assessment and interview | Assessment of personality and suitability for the MNS |
Medical examination | Special Medical Board, with an appeal route if declared unfit |
ToGIGE pattern
Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
ToGIGE (General Intelligence and General English), computer-based | 40 MCQs | 80 (2 per correct answer) | 30 minutes |
Negative marking | Applies to every question | Minus 0.5 per wrong answer | Within the same 30 minutes |
What this means for you:
Speed matters: You get about 45 seconds per question, so accuracy under time pressure decides your score.
Guess carefully: A wrong answer costs a quarter of what a correct answer earns, so skip questions you cannot narrow down.
NEET still counts: Your NEET UG score is the gate to every later stage, so it remains the main preparation priority.
Older pages may still describe the pre-2022 entrance test with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English papers, or mention ToELR, which is the test for MBBS at AFMC. Follow the current notification.
Syllabus summary
Subject | Stage | Important topics |
|---|---|---|
Physics, Chemistry, Biology | NEET UG | Full NEET UG syllabus as notified for the year |
General Intelligence | ToGIGE | Series, analogies, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions, puzzles, non-verbal reasoning |
General English | ToGIGE | Grammar, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, sentence correction, comprehension |
Personality and awareness | Interview | Class 12 subjects, current affairs, the MNS and armed forces, your own background |
The notification names ToGIGE but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus for it. The topics above are a working checklist built from the test name and the usual scope of such tests.
Selection process and merit
Shortlisting: Candidates are called for screening on the basis of NEET UG scores. The shortlisting score is not published in advance.
Screening: Document verification, ToGIGE, psychological assessment and interview.
Medical examination: Only candidates declared fit by the Special Medical Board, or on appeal, are considered.
Merit and allotment: Final merit combines the NEET UG score with performance in ToGIGE and the interview, as reported. The weightage of each part has not been published. NCC 'C' certificates and sports achievements may be considered as per the notification. Colleges are then allotted by merit, preference and seats available.
Training, stipend and service commitment
During the course: Free accommodation and ration, a uniform allowance and a monthly stipend as per government rules. The stipend amount is not given in the published summaries of the notification, so check it in the notification itself.
Bond: Selected candidates sign a bond to serve in the MNS. Withdrawing, being removed from training or refusing a commission can make you liable to pay the bond money, and the notification sets the exact terms.
Commission: On completing the course, candidates are eligible for a Permanent or Short Service Commission in the MNS under the rules in force.
Read the bond clause in the notification carefully before you accept a seat, because the amount and conditions are fixed there.
Cut-off reference
DGAFMS does not publish a cut-off or shortlisting score for this course. The only published threshold is the NEET UG qualifying cut-off set by NTA, which is the minimum to stay eligible, not the score that gets you shortlisted. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, seats and the number of applicants, so treat any figure as a benchmark and aim for a clear margin above it.
How to prepare
NEET UG first
Your NEET UG score is the gate, so build the plan around the NEET syllabus, with extra weight on Biology, which carries about half the paper. Revise NCERT thoroughly and take full-length NEET tests every week in the final months.
ToGIGE alongside
Give 30 to 40 minutes a day to reasoning and English from about three months before the screening window. Practise in 30-minute, 40-question sets to get used to the speed. For timed practice.
Interview, psychological tests and medicals
Read the news daily, know basic facts about the MNS and the armed forces, and be ready to talk about your Class 12 subjects and why you want to serve. Get an eye and dental check and track your weight well before the medical so there are no surprises.
