Bihar Police Constable Cut Off: Qualifying Marks and How Shortlisting Works

The Bihar Police Constable cut off works differently from most state police exams. The written test is only a qualifying round, so there are two numbers to understand: the minimum qualifying mark, and the category-wise mark that decides who is called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). This page explains both, and what they mean for your preparation.

How the Bihar Police Constable Cut Off Works

For the recruitment under Advt. No. 01/2025 (19,838 posts), the written exam carried 100 marks. Candidates needed at least 30 per cent, which is 30 marks, to qualify. The Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) then shortlisted candidates for the PET category-wise, in a ratio of roughly five times the vacancies, using written marks. More than 99,000 candidates were reported as shortlisted.

Stage

What the cut off means

Minimum qualifying marks

30 per cent of 100 marks, needed to be considered at all

PET shortlisting cut off

Category-wise written marks of the last candidate called for the PET; varies by category and gender

Final merit

Based on PET marks out of 100; written marks are not added

This means the written cut off is a gate, not a rank. Once you are in the PET list, your written score no longer matters.

Reported Written Exam Cut Off (Advt. 01/2025)

The figures below are the category-wise marks reported by third-party exam portals for male candidates. They are indicative only, because portals disagree with each other and the official result notice should be treated as the final source.

Category

Reported cut off (out of 100)

General (UR)

68

BC

62 (male); 54 (female)

EBC

58

EWS

58

SC

50

ST

48

Treat these as a rough guide to the level of competition. Women's cut offs are usually lower than men's in the same category, and the cut off changes with every recruitment.

What Decides the Cut Off

  • Number of vacancies: More posts in a category mean a larger PET list and a lower cut off.

  • Number of applicants: A bigger pool raises the marks needed to stay in the shortlist.

  • Paper difficulty: A tougher paper pulls scores down across all categories.

  • Reservation and gender: Each category and gender is shortlisted separately.

How to Use This in Your Preparation

Do not aim for 30 marks; aim well above the General figure of the last cycle so you stay safe in a harder paper. Then put the same energy into running, shot put and high jump, because the PET decides the final merit. cover the rest of the process.
