Bihar Police Constable

The Bihar Police Constable exam is the state's main route into the police force. The Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC), Bihar, runs it for constable posts in Bihar Police and the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP). The latest general cycle, under Advt. No. 01/2025, covered 19,838 posts, and its final selection list was released on 27 May 2026.

CSBC runs several constable-level recruitments at the same time, each with its own advertisement number, syllabus and pattern. As of 8 October 2026, the CSBC notice list does not show a new advertisement for general Constable posts. The table shows where each recent recruitment stands.

Vacancy Details

Advt. No. 01/2025 listed 19,838 posts. Of these, 6,717 were reserved horizontally for women (35 per cent) and 397 for dependants of freedom fighters.

Vacancy numbers change with every advertisement and can be revised before the written exam. Treat these as the last official figures, not a forecast.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification

Candidates need an Intermediate (10+2) pass, or a Madrasa Maulvi certificate, a Sanskrit board Shastri (with English) or Acharya certificate, or another equivalent qualification recognised by the state. The written paper is set at Matric level, but the qualification needed to apply is 10+2.

Age limit

The minimum age is 18 years. Age is counted from the date of birth in the Matric or equivalent certificate.

Physical standards (PST)

Men need a chest expansion of at least 5 cm. Candidates must be Indian citizens, and reservation benefits apply only to permanent residents of Bihar. Every selected candidate also faces a medical test, which includes eyesight, colour blindness and hearing.

Application Fee and How to Apply

Bank charges are extra, and the fee is not refunded. The process in the 2025 cycle ran in these steps:

1. Open the official site: Go to csbc.bihar.gov.in and click the advertisement number under the Bihar Police tab.

2. Register: Enter your name, mobile number, email, category, gender, date of birth and post preference, then pay the fee online.

3. Log in with the SMS details: Fill in parent names, address and educational details and accept the declaration.

4. Upload files: Add a recent colour photograph and your signature.

5. Submit and print: Confirm, submit and keep a printed acknowledgement.

Only one application per mobile number is allowed. Wrong category, date of birth or gender, or a mismatch with your certificates, can cancel your candidature.

Exam Pattern

The advertisement awards one mark per correct answer and does not mention a deduction for wrong answers. Confirm this on your admit card.

• The written exam only opens the door: A score above 30 per cent places you in the PET shortlist, which is about five times the posts in each category.

• The PET sets your rank: Half its marks come from the run, so training time matters more than extra written marks.

• Each event is mandatory: Missing the minimum in any one event ends your chances.

Patterns differ across posts. The Special Branch exam in June 2026, for example, had two papers of 100 questions each with 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

Syllabus Summary

CSBC states that the written paper is at Matric level and based on the Bihar School Examination Board syllabus for Classes 9 and 10. CSBC does not publish a section-wise question split, so use the table as a working checklist.

Selection Process

1. Written exam: Qualifying only. Candidates scoring under 30 per cent are declared unsuccessful for the PET.

2. PST and PET: Height, chest or weight is measured first, then the three events are scored out of 100. Candidates must pass each event separately.

3. Merit list: Prepared from PET marks. Ties are settled by older age, then higher educational qualification.

4. Document verification: Originals of educational, age and category certificates.

5. Medical and character verification: Done by the appointing authority before joining.

Salary

Constables are placed in Level 3 of the Bihar pay matrix, with a pay band of Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100. In-hand pay depends on allowances and deductions, which the advertisement does not give, so this guide does not quote an estimate.

Admit Card and Exam-Day Rules

Recent CSBC notices set a clear routine. The e-admit card is released on the CSBC website a few days before the exam and is downloaded with the registration number, or the registered mobile number and date of birth. Duplicate copies could be collected from the CSBC office in Patna.

• Carry: The printed e-admit card and one valid photo ID, such as an Aadhaar card, passport, driving licence, PAN card or voter ID.

• Do not carry: Mobile phones, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi gadgets, electronic pens and any wrist or smart watch. Breaking this rule can lead to legal action.

• Reach early: Entry closes one hour before the exam starts, and the question booklet stays at the centre.

• Fill the OMR sheet carefully: Roll number, booklet number, signature and declaration are compulsory, and errors can cancel the sheet. You keep the third carbon copy.

How to Prepare

Work on the written exam and the PET together. The written stage needs steady, broad practice to cross 30 per cent safely. The PET needs regular running, throwing and jumping practice, because it decides your rank.

• Cover the Class 9 and 10 books: Revise maths formulas, grammar and social science basics first, using the Bihar Police Constable syllabus.

• Add Bihar-focused general knowledge: Read the last 6 to 12 months of current affairs and Bihar history and geography.

• Train for the PET early: Practise the 1.6 km run (1 km for women), the 16 lb or 12 lb shot and the high jump.

• Test under exam conditions: Attempt timed full-length papers with OMR-style marking and review each one the same day.

The final merit list is built from PET marks, so no written cut-off beyond the 30 per cent minimum decides selection. Treat last year's PET scores as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin.
