Teaching Exams

Bihar Public Service Commission Assistant Professor

BPSC Assistant Professor is a recruitment exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, relevant to aspirants preparing for teaching and education-sector recruitment.

BPSC Assistant Professor recruitment is the process through which the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) selects teaching faculty for colleges run by Government of Bihar departments. Most of these posts sit in the Health Department, which runs state medical colleges and hospitals, Ayurvedic colleges and a homoeopathic college. Others sit in the Science, Technology and Technical Education Department, which runs government engineering colleges. Each department sends its own requisition, so BPSC issues separate subject-wise advertisements rather than one common exam.

This page explains which Assistant Professor posts BPSC actually recruits for, how this differs from university recruitment in Bihar, and where the latest cycles stand. It also covers eligibility, the selection method for each type of post, fees, pay and how to prepare. The biggest current update is that BPSC has withdrawn the 2025 medical college advertisements (Advt. Nos. 04/2025 to 28/2025) and says fresh advertisements are being prepared.

Latest Updates on BPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment

These are the most recent developments reported for BPSC Assistant Professor cycles. Confirm each one on the official website before acting on it.

  • 2025 medical college advertisements withdrawn: In late October 2026, BPSC withdrew Advt. Nos. 04/2025 to 28/2025 for 1,711 Assistant Professor (Speciality) posts in state medical colleges and hospitals. The Health Department withdrew its earlier requisition, and BPSC has said fresh advertisements are being prepared on the basis of a revised requisition.

  • No new dates yet: The revised vacancy count, application dates and selection rules for the fresh medical college advertisements have not been announced. It is also not yet clear whether earlier applications will carry over, so wait for the new notice before assuming anything.

  • AYUSH colleges: In 2025, BPSC advertised 88 Assistant Professor posts for Government Ayurvedic Colleges at Patna and Begusarai, and 13 posts for the Government homoeopathic medical college at Muzaffarpur. Check the official website for the current stage of these recruitments.

  • Engineering colleges: Results continue to be issued for older engineering college advertisements. For example, the final result for Assistant Professor, Physics (Advt. No. 63/2020) for government engineering colleges was declared in November 2025, with an addendum for two reserved seats in July 2026.

Eligibility for BPSC Assistant Professor Posts

Eligibility follows the regulator of each discipline, not a single BPSC rule. The summary below is drawn from recent advertisements as reported; see the full BPSC Assistant Professor eligibility guide for detail.

Educational qualification

Type of post

Qualification reported in recent advertisements

Medical college (speciality)

MD or MS in the relevant subject (MDS for dental posts), plus about three years of experience as Senior Resident, Registrar or Tutor in a recognised medical college after the postgraduate degree, in line with NMC norms

Ayurvedic college

BAMS and MD or MS (Ayurveda) in the relevant subject, completed internship, state council registration and NCISM teacher code norms

Homoeopathic college

BHMS and MD (Homoeopathy) in the relevant subject, with completed internship

Engineering college

B.E. or B.Tech and M.E. or M.Tech in the relevant branch, with first class or equivalent in either degree, as per AICTE norms

NET or SET is not the usual requirement for these professional college posts. It matters mainly for university posts under BSUSC. A PhD, DM, MCh or DNB super-speciality does not replace the basic qualification but can add marks in merit-based selections.

Age limit

Age limits differ by advertisement. Recent AYUSH notices reported a minimum of 27 years and a maximum of 45 years for unreserved candidates, with relaxation for reserved categories. The withdrawn 2025 medical notice reported a maximum of 45 years as on 1 August 2025 for the general category, with higher limits for reserved categories and women. These figures are indicative; the fresh notice will set the limits for the next cycle.

Other conditions

  • Registration: Medical and AYUSH posts usually need valid registration with the relevant state or national council before joining.

  • Experience proof: Teaching or residency experience must be backed by appointment and joining records issued by a competent authority.

  • Reservation: Reservation and age relaxation as per Government of Bihar rules apply to Bihar domicile candidates of reserved categories.

Application Fee and How to Apply

Recent Health Department advertisements reported the fees below. Engineering advertisements have used a different, higher fee structure, so check the notice for your post.

BPSC Assistant Professor Selection Process

There is no single BPSC Assistant Professor exam. The selection method depends on the department and is stated in each advertisement. Our BPSC Assistant Professor exam pattern and selection guide explains each method in detail.

Medical college posts

Recent medical college advertisements did not include a written exam. Candidates were ranked on a marks scheme covering MBBS or BDS marks, marks in the speciality subject, postgraduate and super-speciality qualifications, government service experience and, in some reported versions, research publications. An interview carried a small share of marks (6 marks in recent reports), followed by document verification.

Ayurvedic and homoeopathic college posts

The 2025 AYUSH advertisements were also reported as having no written exam. Merit was based on graduation marks, the PG degree, work experience, research papers and an interview.

Engineering college posts

For the 2022 Computer Science and Engineering advertisement, BPSC held a written objective exam on 26 May 2023, from 12 noon to 2 pm. Out of 1,093 candidates who appeared, 504 were called for document verification, followed by interviews in November 2023. Weightage between the written exam and interview should be read from each advertisement.

What this means for you:

  • Your record counts from day one: In marks-based selection, much of your score is fixed by your degrees and experience before you apply. Accurate form filling matters.

  • Interview marks decide close contests: When academic scores cluster, a few interview marks can change your rank.

  • Engineering aspirants need subject revision: A written screening means core subject preparation, not just paperwork.

Syllabus: Is There One?

For merit-based medical and AYUSH posts, there is no written exam and therefore no exam syllabus. The interview tests subject knowledge, teaching ability and research awareness in your speciality. For engineering posts with a written exam, the paper is set in the subject of the post at the level expected of a postgraduate in that branch. BPSC does not publish a common Assistant Professor syllabus, so see our BPSC Assistant Professor syllabus guide for a working checklist by post type.

Salary and Pay Level

The withdrawn 2025 medical college advertisement and the 2025 Ayurveda advertisement were both reported at Pay Level 11 (pre-revised pay band Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 with grade pay Rs. 6,600), plus allowances admissible under state rules. Engineering college posts follow the pay structure stated in their advertisement under AICTE norms.

Type of post

Pay as reported (indicative)

Medical college Assistant Professor

Pay Level 11, plus DA, HRA and other admissible allowances

Ayurvedic college Assistant Professor

Pay Level 11, plus admissible allowances

Engineering college Assistant Professor

As stated in the advertisement (AICTE pay structure)

In-hand salary depends on allowances, posting and deductions. This is not an official in-hand figure; check the pay clause in your notice.

Cut-off and Merit List

For merit-based selections, BPSC prepares category-wise merit lists from the total marks awarded. Result notices can refer to category-wise cut-off marks; for example, the July 2026 addendum for Physics (Advt. No. 63/2020) stated that no category's cut-off changed after two candidates were added. We have not reproduced cut-off figures here because they could not be verified from the official PDFs. Read our BPSC Assistant Professor cut-off guide to understand how merit is built and how to judge your chances.

How to Prepare for BPSC Assistant Professor Selection

For medical and AYUSH candidates

  • Build a document file now: Keep mark sheets, degree certificates, residency appointment and relieving letters, registration and publication proofs in one place.

  • Count your likely marks: Use the marks heads from the last advertisement to estimate your academic and experience score. This tells you how much the interview needs to add.

  • Prepare for the interview: Revise core concepts in your speciality, recent guidelines, competency-based teaching methods, and the research you have published.

For engineering candidates

  • Revise core subjects: Cover the main undergraduate and postgraduate subjects of your branch, with focus on fundamentals.

  • Practise objective questions: Timed MCQ practice builds speed and accuracy for a two-hour paper.

  • Prepare a teaching demonstration mindset: Interview boards often test how clearly you explain a concept.
