BPSC Assistant Professor Cut-off and Merit Explained
The BPSC Assistant Professor cut-off is the score of the last candidate selected in each category for a given subject. Because the Bihar Public Service Commission issues a separate advertisement for every subject or speciality, there is no single cut-off for "BPSC Assistant Professor". Each advertisement has its own merit list and its own category-wise cut-off. For medical and AYUSH posts, which were filled through marks-based merit in recent cycles, the cut-off is a total of academic, qualification, experience and interview marks. For engineering posts, there can also be a written exam stage that decides who reaches the interview.
This page explains how cut-offs work for each type of post, what official information exists, and how to judge your own chances. Cut-offs change every cycle with vacancies, applicants and the marks scheme. Treat any past figure as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above it.
Table of Contents
Types of Cut-off in BPSC Assistant Professor Selection
Type of post | Stage-wise cut-off | Final cut-off |
|---|---|---|
Medical college speciality | No written stage in recent cycles; eligibility screening only | Category-wise total of merit heads plus interview marks |
Ayurvedic or homoeopathic college | No written stage as reported for 2025 | Category-wise total of merit heads plus interview marks |
Engineering college | Written exam cut-off for the document verification and interview list | Category-wise final merit as per the advertisement |
What Official Cut-off Information Exists
BPSC publishes results and merit information as notices on its official website, advertisement by advertisement. Result notices can refer to category-wise cut-off marks. For example, the July 2026 addendum to the final result for Assistant Professor, Physics (Advt. No. 63/2020) in government engineering colleges added two candidates against reserved seats and stated that the cut-off marks of no category changed.
We have not listed cut-off figures on this page. The official result PDFs could not be verified at the time of writing, and figures circulating on other sites are not consistent. When you need a past cut-off, open the final result notice for your subject's advertisement on the BPSC website and read the category-wise table there.
Recent cycle | Cut-off status |
|---|---|
Medical colleges, Advt. Nos. 04/2025 to 28/2025 | No final cut-off; the advertisements were withdrawn in October 2026 |
Medical colleges, Advt. Nos. 34/2024 to 56/2024 | No cut-off; the process was postponed in July 2024 |
Computer Science and Engineering, 2022 to 2023 | 504 of 1,093 written exam candidates qualified for document verification; check the result notice for marks |
Physics, Advt. No. 63/2020 | Final result November 2025; category cut-offs unchanged after the July 2026 addendum |
What Affects the Cut-off
Vacancies per category: Speciality posts are often split into small numbers per category. One or two seats in a category can push its cut-off up sharply.
Applicant profile: In marks-based merit, many candidates share the same PG marks. Experience and super-speciality degrees then decide the order.
Marks scheme changes: A new advertisement can change slabs, experience marks or publication marks, which shifts every candidate's total.
Interview scores: With only a few interview marks (6 marks reported for recent medical posts), small differences still decide close ranks.
Written exam difficulty: For engineering posts, a harder paper lowers the screening cut-off; an easier one raises it.
How to Set Your Target
Estimate your fixed marks: Using the marks heads in the latest advertisement, add up what your degrees, experience and publications should earn. This is the part of your score you already control.
Find the gap: Compare your total with the last available cut-off for your subject and category from the official result notice.
Close the gap where you can: One more documented year of government experience or a qualifying publication can add marks before the next cycle.
Prepare the interview seriously: Aim for the top half of the interview marks, because that margin often separates selected and waitlisted candidates.
Engineering candidates, target accuracy: Aim to score comfortably above the screening line in timed practice before the real exam. Testkart practice tests show your accuracy and attempts over time, which helps you judge progress.
