CBSE Class 11 study notes are short, organised summaries of each chapter that you use for revision before tests and exams. Class 11 has a large syllabus, with ten units in Physics, nine in Chemistry and five dense units in Mathematics, so good notes save hours when exams come close. They work best alongside NCERT, not in place of it.

This page explains what to put in your notes for each type of subject, how to organise them, a revision schedule for the year and how notes fit with practice tests.

What to include in Class 11 notes

Subject type

What to include

Physics

Formula sheet per chapter, derivations in short steps, unit and dimension checks, solved examples of each numerical type

Chemistry

Periodic trends, reaction mechanisms, named reactions, thermodynamics formulas, organic nomenclature rules

Mathematics

Formulas and identities, standard results, one solved example per question type

Biology

Labelled diagrams, classification tables, process flowcharts in human physiology and plant physiology

Accountancy

Journal entry rules, formats of ledgers and financial statements, common adjustments

Economics and Business Studies

Definitions, diagrams for demand and supply, key points per chapter

Humanities

Timelines, map points, key thinkers and concepts, short answer frameworks

How to organise your notes

  • One page per chapter summary: Keep it brief enough to revise in five minutes.

  • Formula and reaction sheets: Separate sheets for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to revise on exam morning.

  • Error log: A notebook of mistakes from tests, with the correct method.

  • Diagram bank: Biology and Geography diagrams redrawn and labelled from memory.

  • Practical notes: Aims, procedures and observations for practical exams and viva.

Revision schedule

  1. Same week: Make or update notes within a week of finishing a chapter in class.

  2. Monthly: Re-read all notes from the month and add anything you got wrong in tests.

  3. Before the half-yearly: Two full rounds of first-term notes and the error log.

  4. Final six weeks: Daily formula-sheet revision, full rounds of chapter notes every two weeks.

Common mistakes with notes

  • Copying the textbook: Notes that repeat NCERT word for word take as long to revise as the book itself.

  • Skipping formula sheets: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics marks depend on quick recall of formulas and reactions.

  • Never updating them: Add every mistake from tests, or the same errors will repeat in the annual exam.

  • Ignoring formative-only topics: Topics assessed only in class activities still help in Class 12 and entrance exams, so keep brief notes on them.
