CBSE Class 11 Syllabus 2026-27: Subject-wise Units and Marks
The CBSE Class 11 syllabus 2026-27 is the subject-wise curriculum CBSE released on 1 April 2026 for senior secondary schools. It covers every language and elective a school can offer, from Physics and Accountancy to History and Psychology. Your school teaches and examines Class 11 from this syllabus, and Class 12 continues it, so the two years form one course.
This page sets out the unit-wise marks for the main subjects in each common stream, flags the topics CBSE assesses only formatively, and gives a practical plan for covering the year. All marks below are taken from the official 2026-27 subject curriculum documents. Where a document does not give a figure, we say so rather than fill the gap.

Key changes to know for 2026-27
Curriculum aligned to NCF-2023: CBSE's Circular Acad-14/2026 states that the 2026-27 curriculum follows the principles of NCF-2023, with more weight on competency-based learning.
Formative-only topics: In Chemistry, s and p block elements and the gaseous state are assessed only formatively. In Biology, Digestion and Absorption is formative only. They are taught but not in the year-end theory paper.
Question typology: Physics and Chemistry give 30% of theory marks to analysing, evaluating and creating; Mathematics gives 20%.
Older pages: Some pages still show older deleted-topic lists. Use the 2026-27 subject PDFs on the CBSE Academic website.

Physics (042)
Unit | Chapters | Marks |
|---|---|---|
I to III: Physical World and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion | Units and Measurements; Motion in a Straight Line; Motion in a Plane; Laws of Motion | 23 |
IV to VI: Work, Energy and Power; System of Particles; Gravitation | Work, Energy and Power; System of Particles and Rotational Motion; Gravitation | 17 |
VII to IX: Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory | Mechanical Properties of Solids and Fluids; Thermal Properties of Matter; Thermodynamics; Kinetic Theory | 20 |
X: Oscillations and Waves | Oscillations; Waves | 10 |
Total | 70 |
Mechanics (the first three units) carries a third of the paper and underpins most of Class 12 Physics. Start there and make vectors and calculus-based motion comfortable early.

Unit | Marks |
|---|---|
Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry | 7 |
Structure of Atom | 9 |
Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties | 6 |
Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure | 7 |
Chemical Thermodynamics | 9 |
Equilibrium | 7 |
Redox Reactions | 4 |
Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques | 11 |
Hydrocarbons | 10 |
Total | 70 |
The two organic units carry 21 marks together. Mole concept from the first unit is used in almost every numerical, so do not rush it.

How to cover the Class 11 syllabus
Weeks 1 to 12: Learn each chapter as it is taught. Read NCERT line by line, solve in-text and exercise questions, and write two-page notes per chapter.
Weeks 6 onwards: Add 20 to 30 minute chapter tests every weekend and maintain an error log of mistakes.
Before the half-yearly exam: Revise the first-term units and attempt at least two timed papers in the board format.
Second term: Repeat the cycle for remaining units, keep practical records current and finish projects early.
Final six weeks: Full-syllabus timed papers, same-day analysis and revision from your error log.
