Indian Navy Agniveer

Indian Navy Agniveer is a recruitment exam for the recruitment of Agniveers, relevant to candidates preparing for the armed forces and paramilitary recruitment.

Indian Navy Agniveer is the Navy's four-year entry for sailors under the Agnipath scheme. The main entries are Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) for candidates with Class 12 Physics and Mathematics, and Matric Recruit (MR) for Class 10 pass candidates. A separate SSR (Medical Assistant) entry for Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology has also been reported for the same cycle. Recruitment runs through the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), and the official portal is joinindiannavy.gov.in.

This page covers the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches, whose notification came out on 10 March 2026. It explains where the cycle stands today, who can apply, how the exam and selection work, what the pay looks like and how to prepare. Wherever SSR and MR differ, the difference is stated plainly. Details that we could not confirm from the notification are marked tentative.

Notification overview and where the cycle stands

The Navy released the Agniveer SSR and MR notifications for the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches on 10 March 2026. Applications ran from 14 March to 6 April 2026, and INET was held in May 2026. The INET result and the Stage II admit card for qualified candidates were reported on 17 September 2026. Stage II dates for the 01/2027 batch had not been announced in the updates we could find, so keep checking your candidate login.

One notification serves two batches. The 01/2027 batch is the earlier intake, while the 02/2027 batch follows later. Stage II is held separately for each batch, and not being selected in one batch does not carry you into the next automatically.

The Navy may also advertise other Agniveer routes, such as the diploma-based Apprentice entry reported for 2026. Those have their own notifications and are not covered on this page.

Vacancy details

The notification does not give a fixed vacancy number. It says vacancies by trade and gender depend on service requirements, and shortlisting is done state-wise. Any vacancy count you see on other websites is an estimate, not an official figure. For the number of seats, wait for the Navy to publish them.

Eligibility for SSR, MR and SSR Medical Assistant

Educational qualification

Entry

Qualification

SSR

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised board, minimum 50% aggregate. A three-year engineering diploma in listed branches, or a two-year vocational course with Physics and Mathematics, is also accepted at 50%

MR

Class 10 from a board recognised by the Ministry of Education, minimum 50% aggregate

SSR (Medical Assistant)

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, reported as 50% aggregate and 40% in each subject (verify in the official notification)

Candidates appearing in Class 10 or Class 12 in 2025-26 could apply, and had to produce original marksheets later and meet the minimum marks.

Age limit

Age is set by date of birth. For the 01/2027 batch, candidates must be born between 1 December 2004 and 31 May 2009. For the 02/2027 batch, the window is 1 May 2005 to 31 October 2009. Both dates are inclusive. The notification does not list category-wise age relaxation.

Other conditions

  • Marital status: Only unmarried candidates can apply, and marriage during the four-year tenure leads to dismissal.

  • Height: The notification states a minimum of 157 cm for men and women. Relaxation rules are on the portal.

  • Vision and tattoos: Corrected vision of 6/6 in each eye and normal colour perception are needed. Tattoos are allowed only on the inner forearm and the back of the hand.

For the full rule set, read the Indian Navy Agniveer eligibility guide.

Application fee and how to apply

The fee is Rs. 550 plus 18% GST, paid online by net banking, card or UPI. It is charged only at Stage I and is non-refundable, and there is no separate fee for Stage II. Sponsored candidates and NCC 'C' certificate holders who are verified skip INET and receive a direct Stage II call-up.

  1. Register: Create an account on the official portal with your own email and mobile number.

  2. Fill the form: Enter personal, domicile and education details exactly as in your certificates.

  3. Upload documents and photo: Add certificates and a recent photo, 10 to 50 KB, against a light background. A live webcam photo is also captured.

  4. Pay the fee: Pay online and download the admit card after submission.

  5. Use the correction window: Fix errors only in the windows announced by the Navy.

Common reasons for rejection include multiple applications, wrong domicile or gender details, and mismatches between online entries and original documents. Reporting more than 30 minutes after the INET reporting time means you will not be allowed to appear.

Exam pattern

Both entries use a computer-based INET at Stage I, and the Stage II written exam repeats the same pattern. Questions are bilingual in Hindi and English, with four options and one correct answer. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.

Sections

SSR

100

1 hour

English, Science, Mathematics, General Awareness (10+2 standard)

MR

50

30 minutes

Science and Mathematics, General Awareness (10th standard)

What this means for you:

  • Pass every section: You must clear each section and the aggregate, so a strong Mathematics score cannot cover a very weak English score.

  • Guess with care: A wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so skip a question when you cannot eliminate at least two options.

  • Plan the clock: Both papers allow about 36 seconds a question, so speed practice matters.

Older pages may still show earlier patterns, so follow the official notification. See the full breakdown in the Indian Navy Agniveer exam pattern page.

Syllabus summary

The Navy names the INET sections but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topics below are a working checklist built from the section names and the stated standard, not an official list.

Selection process

  1. INET (Stage I): Computer-based test. You must pass each section and the aggregate, and pass marks are set by the Navy.

  2. State-wise shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted state-wise on INET marks, with cut-offs varying by state. Ties go to the older candidate.

  3. Physical Fitness Test: Mandatory and qualifying. The 1.6 km run, squats, push-ups and sit-ups must all be cleared.

  4. Written exam: Same pattern as INET, for PFT qualifiers. The provisional select list is based on these marks.

  5. Recruitment medical and documents: Candidates who clear PFT are medically examined, and originals are checked.

For men, the PFT standard is a 1.6 km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds, 20 squats, 15 push-ups and 15 bent-knee sit-ups. The women's standard is a slower run time with fewer repetitions, and you should read the exact figures in the official notification.

The government adds a matching amount to the corpus, and the notification states about Rs. 5.02 lakh each from the Agniveer and the government at exit. Risk and hardship, dress and travel allowances are paid on top. Non-contributory life cover of Rs. 48 lakh and 30 days of annual leave are listed. The scheme carries no gratuity, no pension and no ex-servicemen status.

After four years, up to 25% of each batch may be enrolled as regular sailors at the Navy's discretion. Everyone else leaves with the corpus, so plan your skills and studies accordingly.

How to prepare for Indian Navy Agniveer

Study and practice

  • Start with your standard: SSR candidates should revise Class 11 and 12 Physics and Mathematics, while MR candidates should revise Class 10 Science and Mathematics.

  • Build a reading habit: English and General Awareness reward 30 minutes of daily reading and monthly current-affairs notes.

  • Train for the PFT early: Practise the 1.6 km run, push-ups and sit-ups from the first month, since PFT is qualifying.

Cut-off reference

The Navy has not published an official INET cut-off for this cycle that we could verify. Shortlisting is state-wise and varies with the number of vacancies, applicants and paper difficulty. Treat any figure you see online as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin rather than a bare pass. Our Navy Agniveer cut-off guide explains how to set a target.
