Kolhan University Chaibasa BA Semester 1 Study Material

The Kolhan University BA Semester 1 exam is the first university examination you take after joining a BA course in a college under Kolhan University, Chaibasa, Jharkhand. The university runs the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) under NEP 2020, so your first semester is not one big Hindi or English paper as in the old system. It is a set of seven papers: a Major, an Associated Core, a Multi-Disciplinary Course and four compulsory common courses.

This page explains the whole semester in simple language. You will find the papers you write, the marks and pass marks, the internal and end-semester split, the exam form and fee, admit card corrections, results and how to prepare. Each topic has its own detailed page, linked below, so start here and then go deeper where you need help.

What Is Different in the FYUGP Semester 1

If an elder brother or sister studied BA at Kolhan University before 2022, their first semester looked very different. The old CBCS system had Honours, Generic Elective and other papers. Under FYUGP you choose one Major subject and one Associated Core (AC) subject, then add a Multi-Disciplinary Course and four common courses that every student writes.

  • Associated Core replaces the old Minor name: For Session 2025-29 the university calls the second subject "Associated Core" (AC-1). Earlier FYUGP batches called it Minor (MN-1A). Your admit card and question paper will say AC-1.

  • Common courses are compulsory: Digital Education (SEC-1), Understanding India (VAC-1), Hindi Composition (AEC-1) and Foundation Course in Indian Knowledge System (IKS-1) are written by every first-semester student.

  • Internal marks count: Your Major and AC papers carry 25 marks from the college-level internal exam and attendance. Missing the internal exam costs real marks.

  • Exam year and exam month can differ: The "1st Semester Exam 2025" for Session 2025-29 was held in July 2026. Do not judge your exam date by the name of the exam.

Rules for choosing AC-1 and MDC-1

The exam form notice and exam programme for the 2025 exam set clear rules. Getting these wrong can lead to a wrong subject on the admit card.

  • AC must differ from your Major: Choose an AC subject that your college is approved to teach, so that your internal exam can be held in your own college.

  • AC comes from an approved list: The NEP Cell's list of Associated Core subjects (2025 onward) pairs each Major with allowed AC subjects. For example, an Economics Major can take Political Science, English, History or Home Science, among others.

  • MDC must be new to you: Arts students take MDC-1 in a subject that is not on their Class 12 marksheet, and it must differ from both the Major and the AC.

The 2025 exam form also asked every student to create an ABC/APAAR ID before filling the form. Students of older sessions who did not clear Semester 1 papers appear as ex-regular candidates in the next Semester 1 exam.

The exam form is filled online at www.kuuniv.in, and the fee is paid online. Keep a printout of the submitted form, because the notice asks every student to do so.

Exam Pattern in Brief

MJ-1 and AC-1 papers without practical work carry 75 marks in the end-semester exam and 25 marks in the internal exam. The 25 internal marks include 20 marks for a one-hour written test and 5 marks for attendance. Subjects with practical work, such as Geography, Psychology, Anthropology and Home Science, follow a 60 + 15 + 25 split.

The 75-mark end-semester paper usually has a compulsory Group A (five 1-mark questions and two 5-mark questions) and a Group B where you answer four out of six 15-mark questions. MDC-1 is a 75-mark, three-hour paper with no internal exam. AEC-1, VAC-1 and IKS-1 were one-and-a-half-hour papers in the 2025 exam, written in an answer booklet.

SEC-1 Digital Education and IKS-1

Topic lists are not on the public syllabus page; collect the official syllabus from your college

Many syllabus files on the university website are marked "provisional" and were first made for Session 2022-26. Check with your department whether a newer version applies to your batch.

Pass Marks, Results and Back Papers

You pass a 100-mark Major or AC paper with 40 marks, counting the internal and end-semester parts together. For practical subjects the syllabus asks for 30 in theory and 10 in practical. The 75-mark MDC and SEC papers need 30, and the 50-mark AEC and VAC papers need 20, as per the university's FYUGP course tables.

Results are published as "Pass" and "Promoted" lists. "Promoted" means you move to the next semester but still have a paper to clear. You clear it by appearing as an ex-regular candidate in the next exam of the same semester.

Admit Card and Subject Correction

Admit cards come through your college. Check your Major, AC and MDC subjects carefully as soon as you get it. The exam programme told students to contact the university examination department before the exam begins if a subject is wrong. In August 2026 the university gave students who wrote the exam with a manually corrected subject time until 13 August 2026 to correct the record. After that date a Rs. 200 correction fee applies, and a wrong record can leave your result pending.

  • Application: Addressed to the Controller of Examinations and forwarded by your college Principal, with the college seal.

  • Copies: Your admit card and your Class 12 marksheet.

  • Attendance sheet: A verified copy from your exam centre.

How to Prepare for BA Semester 1

Seven papers in about two weeks feels heavy, but three of them are short 50-mark papers. Plan by marks, not by the number of papers.

  1. Weeks 1 to 4, build the base: Finish one unit a week in your Major and AC. Write short notes in the language you will answer in, Hindi or English.

  2. Weeks 3 to 6, add the common courses: Give 30 minutes a day to Hindi grammar and Understanding India. These papers reward clear, short answers.

  3. Before the internal exam: Revise the units your teacher has finished and attend classes. Attendance alone can give you up to 5 marks in each Major and AC paper.

  4. Last four weeks, practise with papers: Solve previous question papers in exam time. Write four 15-mark answers in about two hours to build speed.

  5. Final week: Revise from your notes and an error list, not from fresh books.

Practising With Previous Papers and Model Tests

Previous question papers are the most useful material for a university semester exam. They show the real Group A and Group B style, the level of Hindi used in questions and which units appear often. Testkart offers 2025 BA Semester 1 previous papers in Hindi for Economics, Political Science AC-1, Hindi Composition, Digital Education SEC-1, Understanding India VAC-1 and Home Science MDC-1.

Where to Go Next

  • Syllabus: Unit-wise topics for Economics, Political Science, Home Science MDC and the common courses.

  • Exam pattern: Marks, time and question types for every Semester 1 paper.

  • Eligibility: Who can sit the exam, subject rules and ex-regular candidates.

  • Pass marks: Minimum marks per paper and how results are shown.

  • Courses and study notes: How to choose help for the semester and how to make notes in Hindi or English.

Official notices always come first. Check the Kolhan University examination portal for forms, admit cards and results, and confirm anything on this page that is marked tentative.
