Life Insurance Corporation Assistant Administrative Officer
Recruitment exam for LIC AAO posts
The LIC AAO exam is the recruitment test for Assistant Administrative Officer posts at the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), conducted by LIC itself through an online, three-stage process. It is an officer-level entry post with a structured pay scale, which is why it attracts a large number of graduates every cycle.
The latest completed cycle is the 2025 recruitment, which was notified on 16 August 2025 for 841 posts across AAO (Generalist), AAO (Specialist) and Assistant Engineer. We could not confirm a new notification for the next cycle at the time of writing, so every figure below comes from the 2025 notification and its results. This page covers dates, vacancies, eligibility, pattern, syllabus, selection, salary and a preparation plan, with links to the detailed pages for each topic.

What this means for you:
Prelims is a hurdle, not a score: It only decides who reaches the mains, so aim for safe sectional marks rather than perfection.
Reasoning and DI carry the most weight: Together they make up 180 of the 300 mains marks.
Awareness sections reward steady reading: Current affairs and insurance topics cannot be crammed in the last week.
Older pages may still show previous patterns, so follow the official notification. The LIC AAO exam pattern page explains the marking and final merit in detail.

Salary and Career Growth
The pay scale reported for the 2025 cycle was Rs. 88,635 to Rs. 1,69,025, with a starting basic pay of Rs. 88,635 per month. Gross pay in a metro city was reported at about Rs. 1.26 lakh per month after allowances. This is not an official in-hand figure, and it varies by city and deductions.
Benefits reported include a contributory pension, gratuity, leave travel concession, medical and insurance cover, and reimbursements as per LIC rules. Check the notification for the full list of allowances and for details on probation, training and promotion.
How to Prepare
Start with the pattern: Fix the prelims sections first, then add mains-only topics.
Build speed in reasoning and DI: These two sections carry 180 of the 300 mains marks.
Read daily for awareness: Spend 30 to 40 minutes on current affairs, banking and insurance news, and keep monthly notes.
Practise typing and writing: The descriptive paper is typed, so practise letters, emails and short essays.
Attempt full-length mocks: Take them in exam timing and review every wrong or slow question.
Cut-off Reference
The prelims has sectional minimum marks, and the final cut-off for the latest cycle was reported at 294 for UR in the Generalist stream out of 360 marks. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. The LIC AAO cut-off page has the category-wise detail.
