LIC AAO Cut Off: Previous Year Marks, Sectional Minimums and Trend
The LIC AAO cut off works in layers. The prelims has sectional minimum marks and no counted score, the mains has sectional minimums, and the final merit list is decided on mains objective marks plus interview marks, with a separate cut-off for each category. This page lists the figures reported for the latest verified cycle (2025) and explains how to use them to set a realistic target.
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. We could not verify official cut-off documents on the LIC website, so the figures below come from secondary reports of the results and are marked as reported.
Prelims Cut Off (Sectional Minimums)
The prelims is qualifying only, so there is no overall score that carries forward. Candidates must clear each section and then rank high enough within their category to be shortlisted for the mains.
Section | SC, ST and PwBD (2025) | Other categories (2025) |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning Ability (out of 35) | 16 | 18 |
Quantitative Aptitude (out of 35) | 16 | 18 |
English Language (out of 30) | 9 | 10 |
The shortlist for the mains was reported at about 20 times the vacancies in each category. The overall prelims score at which candidates were shortlisted was not available from the sources we checked, so there is no category-wise prelims total in this table.
Mains Sectional Minimums
Reports give the following sectional minimums for the mains. These are tentative, so confirm them in the official notification.
Section | SC, ST and PwBD | Other categories |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning Ability (out of 90) | 40 | 45 |
Data Analysis and Interpretation (out of 90) | 40 | 45 |
General Knowledge and Current Affairs (out of 60) | 27 | 30 |
Insurance and Financial Market Awareness (out of 60) | 27 | 30 |
Final Cut Off for AAO Generalist (2025)
The final cut-off is on mains objective marks plus interview marks, out of 360. The category-wise cut-offs reported for the Generalist post in the 2025 cycle are:
Category | Final cut-off (out of 360) |
|---|---|
UR | 294 |
EWS | 288 |
OBC | 285 |
SC | 271 |
ST | 260 |
These figures were reported by more than one source, but they are not from an official LIC document that we could read. Cut-offs for Specialist and AE posts are separate and were not verified. We also did not find reliable category-wise figures for earlier cycles, so this page does not show a year-wise trend.
What Affects the Cut Off
Paper difficulty: A harder reasoning or DI set lowers the scores of most candidates and the cut-off with them.
Vacancies by category: More seats in a category generally means a lower cut-off for that category.
Number of applicants: A larger, stronger pool raises the marks needed.
Interview marks: The interview adds up to 60 marks to the total, so interview scores change where the final line falls.
How to Set Your Target
Work backwards from the final cut-off. Suppose you expect to score around 40 marks in the interview and the benchmark for your category is 294. You would need roughly:
294−40=254
That is 254 out of 300 in the mains objective test, an illustrative figure and not a prediction. Add a safety margin of at least 15 to 20 marks, and make sure you clear every sectional minimum. Reasoning and DI carry 3 marks per question, so a few extra correct answers there move your total the most.
