Insurance & Finance

Life Insurance Corporation of India HFL

LIC HFL is a recruitment exam conducted by Life Insurance Corporation of India, relevant to candidates preparing for insurance and financial-sector recruitment.

LIC HFL recruitment is the hiring done by LIC Housing Finance Limited, a housing finance company promoted by Life Insurance Corporation of India. It runs its own notifications, separate from the LIC of India exams for AAO, ADO and Assistant. For exam aspirants, the current picture has two parts: the Junior Assistant recruitment of 2026, which is complete, and the Apprentice Programme-010, which is open now.

This page covers both. The Junior Assistant cycle (180 vacancies, notified on 16 April 2026) is the best reference for how LIC HFL runs a full selection from application to final list. The apprentice drive (232 vacancies, applications from 20 October to 1 November 2026, exam on 7 November 2026) is the latest update. Dates, fees and rules come from the detailed advertisements; anything we could not confirm is marked as such.

LIC HFL Is Different from LIC AAO, ADO and Assistant

Many aspirants search for "LIC exam" and land on the wrong page. LIC Housing Finance Limited is a separate company, so its posts, syllabus and selection stages do not follow the LIC of India recruitment cycle.

  • Different employer: LIC HFL hires for its own branches and offices. LIC of India recruits Assistants, AAO and ADO through its own notifications.

  • Different pattern: The LIC HFL Junior Assistant test is a single 200-mark online test followed by an interview. There is no separate prelims and mains.

  • Different notices: LIC HFL posts its advertisements on its own Careers page, and updates appear only on its official website.

LIC HFL also advertises other roles from time to time. This page covers only the two recruitments described above, because they are the ones confirmed in detailed advertisements.

Latest Update: LIC HFL Apprentice Programme-010

LIC HFL has invited applications for 232 apprentices under Advertisement LICHFL Apprenticeship Program-010 (Batch 10). The programme runs for 12 months. The advertisement states plainly that an apprenticeship is not employment, and LIC HFL is not obliged to offer a job at the end of it. Successful candidates receive a proficiency certificate.

Junior Assistant 2026: The Last Full Cycle

The Junior Assistant recruitment is a useful guide because every stage has already happened. The notification was released on 16 April 2026, applications ran until 30 April 2026, and the online test was held on 6 June 2026. LIC HFL then published a merit list for the interview round in early July 2026, held interviews in July, and released the final list on 29 July 2026.

The final list names 167 candidates against 180 vacancies, so the list is shorter than the advertised vacancy count. Roll numbers in it are in ascending order and not in order of merit.

The advertisement said the test would be held in the first week of June 2026. Always treat advertisement dates as tentative until a call letter confirms them.

Vacancy Details

The Junior Assistant posts were allotted city by city. A candidate could choose one vacancy city only. The state-wise totals in the advertisement were as follows. LIC HFL did not publish a category-wise (reservation) split.

Syllabus Summary

LIC HFL names the sections in its advertisements but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topic list below is built from the section names and from the kind of questions that banking and finance entry-level tests ask. Use it as a working checklist, not as an official list.

Section

Important topics to cover

English Language

Reading comprehension, cloze test, error spotting, sentence rearrangement, vocabulary

Logical Reasoning

Puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism, input-output, series, inequalities

General Awareness

Housing finance industry, home-loan basics, banking and economy, current affairs

Numerical Ability

Simplification, percentage, ratio, interest, time and work, data interpretation

Computer Skill

Computer basics, MS Office, internet, hardware and software, security basics

The apprentice test uses the same families of topics in shorter sections. The LIC HFL syllabus page breaks each section into sub-topics.

Selection Process

Junior Assistant

  1. Online examination: Scores are equated across sessions if more than one session is held. Sectional and overall cut-offs may apply at LIC HFL's discretion.

  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called in order of exam merit. There is a minimum qualifying mark in the interview, and documents are verified on the day.

  3. Final selection: Based on combined exam and interview marks. The advertisement does not publish the weightage split.

  4. Medical examination and background verification: Adverse findings can lead to termination.

Apprentice

  1. Online proctored written test run by the BFSI Sector Skill Council.

  2. Document verification and personal interview at LIC HFL offices.

  3. Engagement letter for shortlisted candidates.

Salary and Stipend

The Junior Assistant advertisement gave pay by city category. The basic pay is Rs. 20,000 in every category, and meal coupons of Rs. 210 per working day are also part of the package. The advertisement does not say which cities fall in which category. Annual increments of up to 10% of basic pay depend on performance.

Apprentices receive a stipend instead of a salary: Rs. 16,650 a month in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Surat, and Rs. 14,150 a month elsewhere.

How to Prepare for the LIC HFL Exam

Preparation depends on which test you are targeting, but the core plan is the same: build accuracy in the sections that carry the most weight for you, then add timed practice.

  • Start with the scoring sections: Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning and English can be improved quickly with daily practice. Fix your weakest section first.

  • Do not skip Computer Skill and General Awareness: The Junior Assistant test gave each of them 40 marks. Housing finance news, RBI policy and basic home-loan terms are worth a regular reading slot.

  • Practise under the right time limit: 120 minutes for 200 questions leaves about 36 seconds per question on average, so speed matters as much as accuracy.

  • Review every attempt: Keep an error log of wrong and skipped questions and revise it weekly.

Using mock tests

Mock tests show you where marks are lost before the real test does. Start with sectional tests, move to full-length tests in the final weeks, and compare your accuracy and attempts over time.

Cut-Off Reference

LIC HFL has not published category-wise or sectional cut-off marks for the Junior Assistant test, and no cut-off has been published for the apprentice test. The final Junior Assistant list contains names and roll numbers only. Do not rely on pages that show cut-off figures for LIC Assistant, which is a different exam.

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat any benchmark as a guide only, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass. The LIC HFL cut-off guide explains how to set your own target.
