LIC HFL Eligibility Criteria 2026: Age, Education and Rules
LIC HFL eligibility criteria depend on the post you are applying for. For the Junior Assistant recruitment of 2026, candidates needed a regular graduation with at least 55% marks and an age of 21 to 30 years on 1 April 2026. For the Apprentice Programme-010, which is open until 1 November 2026, candidates need a graduation completed by 1 October 2026 and an age of 20 to 25 years on that date.
This page sets out the rules for both, including the percentage and date conditions that cause most rejections. The details come from the advertisements issued by LIC Housing Finance Limited. LIC HFL is a separate company from LIC of India, so the eligibility rules for LIC Assistant, AAO or ADO do not apply here. Where an advertisement says nothing, such as on age relaxation, we say so.

Educational Qualification
Junior Assistant 2026
A candidate had to be a graduate in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India, with at least 55% marks in aggregate. Correspondence, distance and part-time courses were not accepted. The result of the final examination had to be declared on or before 1 April 2026, so a candidate still waiting for a result on that date was not eligible.
The advertisement also set out how to report marks, and this is where applications most often go wrong.
Two decimals: Report the percentage to two decimal places.
CGPA or OGPA: Convert it to a percentage using your university's own conversion norms.
No rounding up: Fractions are dropped, so 54.99% counts as below 55% and does not qualify.
Work experience was preferred but not mandatory, so a fresh graduate could apply.
Apprentice Programme-010
The apprenticeship is open to graduates in any stream. The graduation must be completed on or before 1 October 2026, and the advertisement also says it must not have been completed before 1 October 2001. A candidate must not have a running, terminated or completed apprenticeship contract with any other organisation. The advertisement does not state a minimum percentage, so do not assume the 55% rule of the Junior Assistant post applies.
Age Limit
Post | Reference date | Minimum age | Maximum age |
|---|---|---|---|
Junior Assistant | 1 April 2026 | 21 years | 30 years |
Apprentice | 1 October 2026 | 20 years | 25 years |
For the Junior Assistant post, the advertisement printed the birth-date window as 2 April 1996 to 1 April 2005, both dates inclusive. If your date of birth is close to the edge, follow the dates printed in the advertisement rather than your own calculation.
Age relaxation: The advertisements, as we could verify them, do not list any age relaxation for reserved categories or for candidates with disabilities. Do not assume a relaxation. If you believe you qualify for one, check the full advertisement on the official website or write to the query address given there before you pay the fee.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Citizenship: The Junior Assistant post was open to Indian citizens.
Computer literacy: Operating and working knowledge of computers was required for the Junior Assistant post. The Computer Skill section of the test checks this.
One city only: A candidate could apply for one vacancy city and choose one examination state. The state for the interview matches the vacancy state.
Single registration: Only one registration is valid. If you register twice, the latest one is kept and the other fee is forfeited.
No changes after submission: Details cannot be edited after you submit, so check name, date of birth, marks and city before final submission.
Posting: A preferred city is considered, but a posting in that city is not guaranteed.
Probation: The Junior Assistant post carries a probation of six months, which can be extended as per company rules.
Medical and background checks: Selection is subject to a medical examination, at the candidate's cost, and background verification.
Accessibility: Candidates with a disability of at least 40% in specified categories could get 20 extra minutes per hour in the test. Scribe requests had to be declared in the application, and a scribe could not be a candidate in the same exam.
Application Fee
Fees are paid online and are not refundable. The Junior Assistant fee was Rs. 800 plus 18% GST (about Rs. 944), and the advertisement listed no concession for any category. The apprentice fee depends on category and is charged plus GST.
Apprentice category | Fee |
|---|---|
General, EWS, OBC (male) | Rs. 800 plus GST |
General, EWS, OBC (female and transgender) | Rs. 600 plus GST |
SC, ST, PwBD | Rs. 200 plus GST |
Documents and Image Specifications
The Junior Assistant application required four scanned images, plus a live photograph captured through a webcam or mobile camera during the form. Files that miss the size limits are usually rejected by the upload tool, so prepare them in advance.
Document | Approximate dimensions | File size |
|---|---|---|
Photograph (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) | 200 x 230 pixels | 20 to 50 KB |
Signature in black ink (not in capital letters) | 140 x 60 pixels | 10 to 20 KB |
Left thumb impression (right thumb if the left is unavailable) | 240 x 240 pixels | 20 to 50 KB |
Handwritten declaration in English, in your own hand | 800 x 400 pixels | 50 to 100 KB |
At the interview stage, candidates had to bring a signed system-generated application printout, original certificates and attested copies. For the apprentice programme, the advertisement lists document verification on 15 November 2026. Keep your degree certificate, mark sheets, photo identity proof and Aadhaar card ready.
Who Is Not Eligible
These are the most common reasons a candidate fails the criteria. They follow directly from the conditions above.
Distance or part-time degree: Not accepted for the Junior Assistant post.
Below 55%: Including 54.99%, because fractions are not rounded up.
Result not declared by the deadline: A pending result on 1 April 2026 did not qualify for the Junior Assistant post.
Outside the age window: A date of birth outside the printed window.
Existing apprenticeship: A running, terminated or completed apprenticeship elsewhere rules you out of the apprentice programme.
Graduation not completed by 1 October 2026: Final-year students waiting for results cannot apply to the apprentice programme.
Skipped registration for the test: Apprentice candidates who do not register for the written test are disqualified.
Apprentice Application Checks
The apprentice route has an extra layer before the exam. You first register on the government's National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal and obtain an enrolment ID, then apply to the LIC HFL advertisement from your login. The BFSI Sector Skill Council then invites you by email to complete the detailed form and pay the fee on its portal.

Watch your registered email, including the spam folder, because the invitation to complete the application comes from the Sector Skill Council. The fee deadline is 1 November 2026. A stipend of Rs. 16,650 a month applies in the nine metro cities named in the advertisement and Rs. 14,150 elsewhere. The advertisement states that apprenticeship is not employment.

Planning for the Next LIC HFL Recruitment
LIC HFL does not follow a fixed annual calendar, and the posts, dates and rules change from one notification to the next. The Junior Assistant drive and the apprentice drive were announced about six months apart in 2026. The practical lesson is to keep your paperwork ready so you can apply within days of a notification.
Mark sheets: Calculate your graduation percentage to two decimals and keep a note of the formula your university uses for CGPA conversion.
Scans: Keep a photo, signature and thumb impression in the sizes listed above, and write the declaration in your own hand in English.
Identity: Keep your Aadhaar card, PAN card and a valid photo identity ready.
Official alerts: Check the Careers page on the official LIC HFL website regularly, and use an email address you read every day.
Eligibility Checklist Before You Apply
Confirm the post: Decide whether you are targeting the apprentice programme now or preparing for a future Junior Assistant recruitment.
Check your degree: Confirm the course is a regular full-time one, and note your completion date and final percentage to two decimals.
Check your age: Compare your date of birth with the dates printed in the advertisement.
Prepare your images: Keep scans within the size limits before you start the form.
Check for prior apprenticeship: This matters only for the apprentice programme.
Start preparing: Once you know you are eligible, move to practice.
Where to Verify Eligibility
LIC HFL says it posts updates only on its own website. Read the complete advertisement for your post before you apply, because rules can change from one recruitment to the next. Older pages may show eligibility for LIC Assistant or earlier LIC HFL drives, so follow the current notice.
