MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 Exam Pattern 2026: Prelims and Typing Test
The MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 exam pattern for 2026 has two tested stages: an online preliminary exam of 100 marks and a Hindi typing skill test of 50 marks. The High Court of Madhya Pradesh runs this recruitment for 1,174 Assistant Grade-III posts in District Court establishments under Advertisement No. 614/Pariksha/2026, with the preliminary exam on 23 and 25 November 2026.
This page explains each stage, the marking and deduction rules, how the final merit is likely to work and how to use your time on exam day. The pattern changed from earlier cycles, so a few older rules you may read elsewhere no longer apply. Where a rule is taken from reproductions of the advertisement rather than from the official PDF directly, it is marked as reported or indicative.

Key Changes to Know
Many preparation pages still describe an older structure. The comparison below shows what has changed, so you practise in the right format.

Older pages may still show the earlier structure, so follow the 2026 advertisement. There is no English shorthand stage this cycle because the English Knowing post is not part of Advertisement No. 614/Pariksha/2026.

Stage 1: Online Preliminary Exam Pattern
Section | Questions | Marks | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|
General Knowledge and General Science (including MP GK) | 20 | 20 | Hindi and English |
Mathematics and Logical Reasoning | 20 | 20 | Hindi and English |
General Hindi | 20 | 20 | Hindi |
English Knowledge | 20 | 20 | English |
Computer Knowledge | 20 | 20 | English (as reported) |
Total | 100 | 100 | 120 minutes |
The exam is computer-based and is held at centres in Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Sagar, Satna and Ujjain. It may run in more than one shift on each date, and your admit card will show your centre, date and reporting time. The admit card is expected about seven days before the exam on the official website, using your application number and password.
Candidates are shortlisted for the skill test category-wise. Reports of the advertisement put the shortlist at about five times the number of vacancies in each category, with everyone tied at the last mark included. Treat the ratio as indicative.
Marking Scheme and Negative Marking
Marks per question: each question carries one mark.
Negative marking: the advertisement, as reproduced publicly, does not state any negative marking for the preliminary exam. Read the instructions on your admit card and on the exam screen, because those govern on the day.
Re-evaluation: there is no re-checking or re-evaluation at any stage.
Answer key: a provisional answer key with an objection window is expected after the exam; watch the official website for the notice.
What the Pattern Means for You
One mark everywhere: a computer shortcut question is worth exactly as much as a time and work problem. Pick off quick questions first.
Over a minute per question: 120 minutes for 100 questions gives you 72 seconds each. Most candidates finish early, so accuracy separates candidates more than speed.
Attempt strategy: if the instructions confirm there is no negative marking, leave no question blank. If a deduction is announced, guess only when you can rule out two options.
No weak section allowed: with five equal sections and a category-wise shortlist, a poor Hindi or English score can keep you out of the typing test.
Section-wise Approach for the Preliminary Exam
General Knowledge and General Science
Most questions are one-line facts, so you either know the answer or you do not. Answer what you know in the first pass and do not spend time trying to work out a fact you have never read. MP GK is named in the advertisement, so expect questions on districts, rivers, tribes, culture and state schemes alongside national current affairs.
Mathematics and Logical Reasoning
This is the only section where a single question can eat several minutes. Solve reasoning questions such as coding, series and blood relations first, since they are usually quicker. In arithmetic, use approximation and option checking, and move on if a question needs more than two minutes.
General Hindi
Questions are set only in Hindi. Grammar items such as sandhi, samas and shuddh vartani reward exact rules, so read every option fully. Watch for options that differ by a single matra.
English Knowledge
Error spotting and fill in the blanks usually test tenses, articles and prepositions. Read the full sentence before choosing, and in comprehension questions, answer from the passage rather than from general knowledge.
Computer Knowledge
This section is reported to be set in English. Questions on shortcut keys, MS Office menus, abbreviations and file extensions take seconds if you have revised them, which makes this the best place to bank time for maths.
Suggested Time per Section
Section | Questions | Suggested time | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
Computer Knowledge | 20 | 15 minutes | Mostly direct recall |
General Hindi | 20 | 20 minutes | Options need careful reading |
English Knowledge | 20 | 30 minutes | Comprehension and error spotting take longer |
GK and General Science | 20 | 25 minutes | Quick recall, with time to reconsider |
Mathematics and Reasoning | 20 | 25 minutes | Calculation-heavy |
Review | - | 5 minutes | Marked questions |
Stage 2: Hindi Typing Skill Test Pattern
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Language | Hindi |
Passage length | About 350 words |
Time | 10 minutes |
Maximum marks | 50 |
Keyboard layout | Remington Gail, unrestricted mode |
Deduction per error or omitted word | 0.50 mark |
Deduction per Backspace use | 0.10 mark |
Disabled keys | Delete, arrow keys and mouse |
Portal charges for the test | Rs. 743.40 |
The deduction rules are as reported from the advertisement. Typing the same word twice is also reported to count as an error. The typing test date will be announced after the preliminary result.
Worked Example of Deductions
Suppose a candidate makes 8 typing errors, skips 4 words and presses Backspace 20 times. Errors and omissions cost 12 multiplied by 0.50, which is 6 marks. Backspace use costs 20 multiplied by 0.10, which is 2 marks. That is 8 marks lost in total. The advertisement does not spell out every step of the scoring method, so treat this only as an illustration of how quickly small slips add up.
More Deduction Scenarios
The scenarios below apply the reported deduction rates to different typing habits. They show only the marks lost, not a final score.
Typing habit | Errors and omissions | Backspace uses | Marks lost |
|---|---|---|---|
Careful and steady | 4 | 10 | 2 + 1 = 3 |
Fast but careless | 20 | 15 | 10 + 1.5 = 11.5 |
Over-correcting | 6 | 60 | 3 + 6 = 9 |
The over-correcting typist makes few errors but still loses heavily to Backspace use. The lesson is to type accurately the first time rather than fix every slip.
How to Prepare for the Typing Test
Weeks 1 to 2: learn the Remington Gail key positions and type slowly with no errors.
Weeks 3 to 4: practise matras, half letters and conjuncts, which cause most Hindi typing errors.
Weeks 5 onwards: timed 10-minute passages of about 350 words, recording errors and Backspace count each time.
Qualifying Marks and Final Merit
Category | Minimum in typing test | Marks out of 50 |
|---|---|---|
UR and OBC | 55% | 27.5 |
EWS | 49.5% | 24.75 |
SC | 45% | 22.5 |
ST and candidates with disabilities | 40% | 20 |
As reported from the advertisement, preliminary marks are used for shortlisting only and are not added to the final result. The final merit list and waiting list are then drawn from the typing test marks, subject to the minimums above. When two candidates have equal marks, the older candidate is reported to be placed higher. These merit rules are indicative; confirm them in the official advertisement.
OBC results are expected in two parts because of a pending case on OBC reservation, with a share of OBC posts kept provisional.
Document Verification and Counselling
Candidates in the final merit list attend document verification. Districts are allotted through counselling based on category-wise merit and district vacancies, and candidates cannot choose their district. Bring the original graduation documents, the computer qualification certificate, the MP domicile and category certificates where claimed, and an NOC if you are already employed in government service.
Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy
For the Preliminary Exam
First 35 minutes: Computer Knowledge and General Hindi, which are mostly direct recall.
Next 30 minutes: English Knowledge, starting with error spotting and vocabulary.
Next 25 minutes: General Knowledge, including MP GK.
Next 25 minutes: Mathematics and Reasoning, skipping any long calculation on the first pass.
Last 5 minutes: review marked questions.
Change the order to suit your strengths, but fix it before the exam and practise it in mocks.
For the Typing Test
Steady pace: 350 words in 10 minutes means about 35 words a minute. Do not rush the first minute.
Let small slips go: a Backspace costs 0.10 mark while a wrong word costs 0.50, so correct a word only if you notice it immediately.
Read ahead: keep your eyes one word ahead to avoid skipping lines.
What to Expect on Exam Day
Reporting time: your admit card states the reporting time and gate closing time for your shift. Plan to reach the centre well before it.
Documents: carry the printed admit card and the identity proof it asks for. Follow the admit card list exactly.
Prohibited items: mobile phones, calculators and other electronic devices are normally not allowed. Check the admit card instructions for the full list.
On the screen: read the on-screen instructions in the first minutes, including any rule on negative marking and how to mark questions for review.
Language choice: GK and maths questions are set in Hindi and English, so decide in advance which version you will read first.
