MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 Syllabus 2026: Section-wise Topics
The MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 syllabus covers five subjects in the online preliminary exam and a Hindi typing skill test. The High Court of Madhya Pradesh conducts the recruitment for Assistant Grade-III posts in District Court establishments, and the 2026 cycle (Advertisement No. 614/Pariksha/2026) has 1,174 posts with the preliminary exam on 23 and 25 November 2026.
The High Court names the five sections in its advertisement but does not publish a detailed topic-wise syllabus. The topic lists below are built from the section names in the 2026 advertisement and from questions asked in earlier MP High Court and district court clerical papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. Each section also has a "start with" column so you know where to begin.
Table of Contents
Syllabus at a Glance
Stage | Section | Questions | Marks | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Prelims | General Knowledge and General Science (including MP GK) | 20 | 20 | Hindi and English |
Prelims | Mathematics and Logical Reasoning | 20 | 20 | Hindi and English |
Prelims | General Hindi | 20 | 20 | Hindi |
Prelims | English Knowledge | 20 | 20 | English |
Prelims | Computer Knowledge | 20 | 20 | English (as reported) |
Skill test | Hindi typing, about 350 words in 10 minutes | - | 50 | Hindi |
The preliminary exam has 100 questions for 100 marks in 120 minutes.
Key Changes to Know
Five equal sections: each subject now carries 20 questions. Older pages still show a 30-question GK section and a 10-question Hindi section; that split does not apply to 2026.
No dictation stage: the 2026 skill stage is a single Hindi typing test of 50 marks. Older pages describe a typing-plus-dictation main exam of 100 marks.
Single post: the 2026 advertisement covers only Assistant Grade-III, so there is no separate English shorthand syllabus for this cycle.
No higher maths: some pages list calculus, matrices and vectors. A 20-question section for a graduate clerical post is built on arithmetic and basic reasoning, so spend your time there.
General Knowledge and General Science Syllabus
This section mixes Madhya Pradesh GK, national and international current affairs, and basic science. MP GK is named in the advertisement itself, so treat it as the core of this section.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
MP history and culture | Ancient and medieval dynasties of the region, freedom movement in MP, formation of the state, folk dances, festivals, tribes, art and crafts | Formation of MP and major tribes |
MP geography | Rivers and dams, national parks and tiger reserves, minerals, soils, crops, districts and divisions | Rivers, national parks and districts |
MP economy and schemes | State budget highlights, major state government schemes, industries, power projects | Current state schemes |
Indian polity | Constitution basics, fundamental rights and duties, Parliament, judiciary, High Court and district court structure | Judiciary and the court system |
History and geography of India | Freedom struggle, important personalities, physical geography, states and capitals | Freedom struggle timeline |
Current affairs | National and international events, awards, sports, books and authors, important days, appointments | The last 6 to 12 months |
General science | Human body, diseases and nutrition, everyday physics and chemistry, environment, science and technology | Human body and everyday science |
Questions here are usually factual and short. A good return comes from a compact MP GK note set revised often, rather than from reading many books once. Because the post is in the district judiciary, basic questions on the court system and the Constitution are worth preparing.
MP GK Breakdown
MP GK carries much of the weight in this section, so split it into fixed themes and revise each one on a cycle.
Theme | What to learn | Example facts to know |
|---|---|---|
State formation | Formation dates and reorganisation | MP was formed on 1 November 1956; Chhattisgarh was carved out on 1 November 2000 |
Rivers | Origin, direction of flow, dams and projects | Narmada, Chambal, Betwa, Son, Tapti and their major dams |
National parks and tiger reserves | Location by district, famous species | Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura and Panna |
Tribes | Major tribes, regions, festivals and art | Bhil, Gond, Baiga, Sahariya and Korku |
Heritage sites | UNESCO and major historic sites | Khajuraho, Sanchi and Bhimbetka |
Administration | Divisions, districts, state bodies, the High Court | The principal seat of the High Court is at Jabalpur, with benches at Indore and Gwalior |
Schemes and current events | New state schemes, budget highlights, awards to MP | Use official state government announcements from the last 12 months |
Mathematics and Logical Reasoning Syllabus
Twenty questions are shared between arithmetic and reasoning, so expect a mix. Both are scoring with practice.
Mathematics
Number basics: number system, simplification, BODMAS, HCF and LCM, square roots and cube roots.
Percentage family: percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest.
Ratio family: ratio and proportion, partnership, average, ages, mixtures.
Time-based: time and work, pipes and cisterns, time, speed and distance.
Others: basic mensuration, simple data interpretation from tables and bar graphs.
Logical Reasoning
Verbal reasoning: analogy, classification, series (number and letter), coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking and order.
Logic: syllogism, statements and conclusions, Venn diagrams, simple seating arrangement.
Non-verbal: mirror and water images, figure series, counting figures.
Start with percentage, ratio and average, because they feed into most other arithmetic chapters. In reasoning, coding-decoding, series and blood relations are quick to learn and appear often.
General Hindi Syllabus
This section is set only in Hindi. It rewards grammar rules learned properly and a strong vocabulary.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Grammar | Sandhi, samas, upsarg and pratyay, sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya, ling, vachan, karak, kaal | Sandhi and samas |
Vocabulary | Paryayvachi (synonyms), vilom (antonyms), anekarthi shabd, vakyansh ke liye ek shabd, tatsam and tadbhav | Paryayvachi and vilom |
Usage | Shuddh vartani (spelling), vakya shuddhi (sentence correction), viram chihn (punctuation) | Common spelling errors |
Idioms | Muhavare and lokoktiyan with meanings | The 100 most common muhavare |
Comprehension | Apathit gadyansh (unseen passage) | One passage a day |
Shuddh vartani also helps you in the typing test, where every wrongly typed word costs marks.
English Knowledge Syllabus
The English section tests school-level grammar and vocabulary. You do not need advanced literature.
Grammar: tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, voice, narration, conjunctions.
Error work: spotting the error, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks.
Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, spelling.
Reading: short comprehension passages, para jumbles, cloze tests.
Start with tenses, articles and prepositions. Most error-spotting questions test these three areas.
Computer Knowledge Syllabus
Computer Knowledge is reported to be set in English. It suits candidates who completed CPCT or a computer diploma, but even beginners can score here with focused notes.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Fundamentals | Generations, input and output devices, memory types, units of storage, hardware and software | Memory and storage units |
Operating system | Windows basics, files and folders, control panel, basic Linux awareness | Windows file operations |
MS Office | MS Word formatting, MS Excel formulas and functions, MS PowerPoint, mail merge | Excel functions and Word menus |
Internet and networks | Browsers, email, protocols, LAN, WAN, IP address, domain names | Email and common protocols |
Shortcuts and terms | Keyboard shortcuts, computer abbreviations, file extensions | Ctrl and function key shortcuts |
Security | Viruses, malware, firewall, antivirus, safe internet use | Types of malware |
Hindi Typing Skill Test: What to Prepare
The typing test has no topic syllabus, but it has clear technical requirements. You type about 350 Hindi words in 10 minutes for 50 marks.
Keyboard layout: Remington Gail only. If you learned Inscript or phonetic typing, switch now.
Accuracy: as reported from the advertisement, each error or omitted word costs 0.50 mark.
Backspace control: each Backspace press costs 0.10 mark, and Delete, arrow keys and the mouse are disabled.
Matras and half letters: practise conjunct letters and matras, since most Hindi typing errors come from them.
Passage type: practise on formal Hindi passages, such as official notices and news reports, since they use the kind of vocabulary a court office handles.
Overlap Between Prelims and the Typing Test
Area | Prelims | Typing test | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Hindi spelling | Shuddh vartani questions | Correct words avoid deductions | Study once, use in both |
Hindi vocabulary | Synonyms and antonyms | Familiar words type faster | Type passages that use exam vocabulary |
Computer basics | Computer Knowledge section | Comfort with the keyboard | Learn shortcut keys while practising typing |
Where to Focus First
All five sections carry the same marks, but they do not take the same effort. The table below suggests an order based on how quickly each section responds to study.
Section | Effort to improve | Suggested priority |
|---|---|---|
Computer Knowledge | Low; mostly fixed facts and shortcuts | Early, for quick marks |
General Hindi | Medium; rules and word lists | Early and daily |
English Knowledge | Medium; grammar rules and vocabulary | Daily, in short sessions |
Mathematics and Reasoning | Medium to high; needs regular practice | Daily problem sets |
GK and General Science | High; wide and changing | Steady, with MP GK first |
Adjust the order to your background. A commerce graduate may find arithmetic easy, while a candidate with CPCT can spend less time on Computer Knowledge.
Reliable Sources for Each Section
Pattern and rules: the official advertisement and notices on the MP High Court website.
MP GK and schemes: official Madhya Pradesh Government portals and press releases for current state schemes.
Science and polity: standard school textbooks for the basics.
Hindi and English grammar: a standard grammar book in each language and daily reading of a newspaper.
Question style: previous MP High Court and district court clerical papers.
Common Syllabus Mistakes
Studying from an old pattern: preparing 30 GK questions and only 10 Hindi questions leaves you short in the 2026 Hindi section.
Treating English as optional: English Knowledge carries 20 marks, the same as GK, and it is set only in English.
Reading national GK only: MP GK is named in the advertisement; skipping it costs easy marks.
Going too deep in maths: time spent on higher mathematics is better spent on arithmetic speed and reasoning.
Leaving typing until after the result: the gap between the preliminary result and the skill test may be short, and Remington Gail speed takes weeks to build.
How to Cover the Syllabus
If Your Exam Is in Three Weeks
Week 1: revise MP GK notes, percentage, ratio and average, and Hindi grammar rules. Take one full mock to find your weakest section.
Week 2: one full-length mock every two days. Use the other days for sectional tests in your two weakest sections.
Week 3: daily full mocks, same-day analysis and revision from your error log. Keep 20 minutes a day for Hindi typing.
If You Are Preparing for the Next Cycle
Weeks 1 to 6: concepts in arithmetic, reasoning, Hindi and English grammar. Start Hindi typing practice from day one.
Weeks 3 to 10: add MP GK and current affairs for 30 to 40 minutes a day, with monthly notes.
Weeks 6 to 10: topic tests and 20-minute sectional tests. Build computer notes alongside.
Final phase: full-length mocks, analysis and error-log revision, with timed typing passages.
A 60-Day Plan
If you have two months before the next exam, this plan builds each section in turn and leaves the last two weeks for full mocks and revision.
Days | Focus | Daily targets |
|---|---|---|
1 to 15 | Arithmetic basics, Hindi grammar, computer fundamentals | 25 maths questions, one Hindi grammar topic, 20 minutes of typing |
16 to 30 | MP GK themes, reasoning, English grammar | One MP GK theme, 20 reasoning questions, one English rule set, 20 minutes of typing |
31 to 45 | Current affairs, general science, MS Office and internet | Current affairs notes, one sectional test, 25 minutes of typing |
46 to 60 | Full revision and mocks | One full mock every one or two days, error-log revision, a timed 10-minute typing passage |
