What the ASI (Ministerial) post is
"Ministerial" matters here. This is the administrative and documentation cadre of the police department, so the selection tests typing speed and accuracy on a computer along with a written paper. It is not the same as the Sub-Inspector post, which has a different pattern, physical tests and syllabus.
The Board also advertises other ASI-level posts, such as ASI (Computer), with different qualifications and papers. This page covers only the ASI (Ministerial) posts in the current advertisement.

SC, ST, OBC, EWS (Madhya Pradesh domicile only) | Rs. 250 |
MP Online portal charges are extra: Rs. 60 at a kiosk or Rs. 20 for a registered portal user. Some summaries also list a separate police department fee, so check the total payable on the application portal before paying.

Fill one form: One form covers all eligible posts. Mark your preference against each post you qualify for, and choose your exam city preferences.
Upload documents: A recent photograph, signature, handwriting sample and a marksheet that proves your date of birth. Keep your domicile, category and CPCT certificates ready.
Pay and submit: Pay the fees online or at the kiosk, then save the confirmation form. Use the correction window only for genuine errors, as changes are not allowed after it closes.
Exam pattern and selection process
Selection has a written stage followed by a practical typing test. The two together decide final merit.
Phase 1: online written test
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge and Reasoning | 40 | 40 |
Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude | 30 | 30 |
Science and Simple Arithmetic | 30 | 30 |
Total | 100 | 100 |
The test is computer-based, in Hindi, and lasts 2 hours. Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and there is no negative marking.
Phase 2: practical test and verification
Typing test: ASI candidates type two Hindi passages of about 600 words each, with 30 minutes for each passage, for 100 marks in all. A minimum of 30 marks is needed to qualify.
Shortlisting: Roughly seven times the number of posts in each vertical category are called after Phase 1. The cut-off is dynamic, so it depends on how the candidates score.
Later checks: Document verification, height measurement and a medical examination follow.
What this means for you: there is no penalty for guessing, so attempt every question, and treat the typing test as a scoring paper rather than a formality. Older pages may still show a different pattern, so follow the official notification. The MP Police ASI exam pattern page has the full detail.
Syllabus summary
MPESB names the three written sections and their marks. A detailed topic list is not published in the notification summaries we could verify, so the table below is a working checklist built from the section names and the standard level of this paper, not an official list.
Section | Important areas |
|---|---|
General Knowledge and Reasoning | Current affairs, Madhya Pradesh GK, history, geography, polity, logical reasoning |
Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude | Series, analogies, coding-decoding, puzzles, data and comprehension-style questions |
Science and Simple Arithmetic | Everyday science, number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work |
See the MP Police ASI syllabus page for the section-wise checklist and a study plan.
Salary and career growth
The pay scale listed for ASI (Ministerial) is Rs. 19,500 to Rs. 62,000 (Group III), with allowances as admissible under Madhya Pradesh Government rules. During probation, new appointees receive a stipend of 70 percent, 80 percent and 90 percent of the minimum pay in the first, second and third year respectively. For the Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer post the listed scale is Rs. 36,200 to Rs. 1,14,800.
Take-home pay differs by posting city and allowances, and this is not an official in-hand figure. Appointments made on or after 1 January 2005 fall under the contributory pension scheme.
How to prepare for MP Police ASI
The written test is a 100-mark general paper, so most of the competition is decided by accuracy and a steady typing speed. Prepare the two parts together instead of leaving typing for the end.
Weeks 1 to 4: Cover arithmetic basics, reasoning types and Class 10 science. Start daily Hindi typing practice from the first week.
Weeks 5 to 8: Add Madhya Pradesh GK and current affairs with short monthly notes. Take topic-wise tests.
Final weeks: Attempt full-length timed tests, review every wrong answer, and rehearse the 30-minute passage format for typing.
For timed practice in the written pattern, you can attempt MP Police ASI online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan revision. Pair them with previous papers from similar MPESB police recruitments to understand the difficulty level. A guide to making short notes for MP Police ASI can help with the GK-heavy sections.
Cut-off reference
No official cut-off has been published for the current ASI (Ministerial) cycle, and we have not found a verified figure for an earlier ASI cycle. The notification states that a dynamic cut-off is applied to shortlist roughly seven times the posts. Read how this works on the MP Police ASI cut-off page and use your mock scores as the benchmark meanwhile.
