MP Police ASI Exam Pattern 2026: Marks and Stages

The MP Police ASI exam pattern for the ASI (Ministerial) post has two scoring stages: a 100-mark online written test and a 100-mark practical typing test. After these come document verification, a height check and a medical examination. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) runs the process for the Police Headquarters, Home (Police) Department.

The pattern below follows the current notification as reported by several sources. Details such as shift timings and the exact merit weightage can change, so confirm them on the official MPESB website.

The test is computer-based and objective, and the language is Hindi. The exam is held in two shifts on each exam day, reported as 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Phase 1 test begins from 3 November 2026 according to the notification, which is tentative until your admit card confirms your own date, city and shift. The summaries we checked do not mention a separate time limit for each section, so treat the paper as one 2-hour window.

Marking scheme

  • Correct answer: 1 mark.

  • Wrong answer: No deduction. The notification reports no negative marking.

  • Unattempted question: 0 marks, the same as a wrong answer.

Older pages and pages about the Sub-Inspector recruitment may show negative marking or a two-paper structure. Follow the official notification for ASI (Ministerial).

What the pattern means for you

  • Every question is worth 1 mark: A 40-mark GK section has the same per-question value as arithmetic, so start with the section where you are fastest.

  • Guessing costs nothing: Answer all 100 questions. Use elimination on questions you are unsure of, and mark them for review.

  • About 72 seconds per question: That is the average across 100 questions in 2 hours. Aim to spend less on GK so you have more time for reasoning and arithmetic.

  • GK and reasoning carry 40 percent: Weakness in static GK or Madhya Pradesh facts is hard to fix late, so start early.

Shortlisting for Phase 2

MPESB does not announce a fixed qualifying mark for the written test. Instead, candidates numbering about seven times the advertised posts in each vertical category (such as unreserved, SC, ST, OBC and EWS) are called for Phase 2. The cut-off is dynamic, it is not set separately for horizontal categories like women or ex-servicemen, and candidates who score exactly at the cut-off are included even if that takes the number above seven times.

In practice, your written score decides whether you reach the typing test. See the MP Police ASI cut-off page for how to set a target.

Phase 2: practical typing test

Item

Detail for ASI (Ministerial)

Task

Type two Hindi paragraphs of about 600 words each

Time

30 minutes for each paragraph

Marks

100 in total, 50 for each paragraph

Qualifying marks

30 out of 100

Evaluation

Marks reduced for extra, missing or wrongly spaced characters

Only the typed matter is checked, and corrections by pen are not accepted. Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer candidates take a different test with shorthand dictation, which does not apply to ASI.

Later stages and final merit

After the typing test, candidates go through document verification, a height measurement (162 cm for men, 152 cm for women, with no relaxation) and a medical examination. Final merit is prepared from the written marks and the practical marks together. Some summaries mention extra marks, equal to 5 percent of written marks, for specified categories such as ex-servicemen and NCC certificate holders. Treat this as tentative and check the notification for the exact list and weightage.

Time management and exam-day strategy

  1. First pass (about 60 minutes): Solve the questions you are sure of in all three sections.

  2. Second pass (about 40 minutes): Return to marked questions and use elimination.

  3. Last 15 to 20 minutes: Fill every blank option and check any calculation-heavy answer.

Practise this routine in timed conditions. A set of MP Police ASI mock tests on Testkart can help you build the habit, and the syllabus guide shows which topics to study for each section.
