MP Police ASI Cut Off: How It Is Decided
The MP Police ASI cut off for the ASI (Ministerial) post is not a fixed pass mark. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) shortlists candidates after the written test using a dynamic cut-off, so the number that matters is decided only after every candidate has taken the test.
No official cut-off has been published for the current cycle, and we have not found a verified category-wise cut-off for an earlier ASI (Ministerial) cycle. Cut-off tables on other pages often belong to the Sub-Inspector recruitment, which has a different pattern, so do not use them as ASI figures. This page therefore explains how the cut-off works and how to set a target. Watch the official MPESB website for results and cut-off notices.
How the MP Police ASI cut-off works
Stage | Cut-off rule |
|---|---|
Phase 1 written test (100 marks) | No fixed qualifying mark. About seven times the posts in each vertical category are called for the next stage |
Ties at the cut-off | Candidates scoring exactly at the cut-off are included, even if the total goes above seven times |
Horizontal categories | The cut-off is not calculated separately for women or ex-servicemen |
Phase 2 typing test (100 marks) | Minimum 30 marks to qualify |
Final merit | Written and practical marks combined |
Cut-offs change every cycle with paper difficulty, the number of posts and the number of applicants. Treat any earlier figure as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass.
Posts that shape the cut-off
The 7x rule applies to the posts in each category, so more posts in a category usually means a larger shortlist and a lower cut-off, other things being equal. The current advertisement lists 655 provisional posts, including 520 for ASI (Ministerial). The break-up is on the MP Police ASI overview page.
What affects the cut-off
Paper difficulty: A tougher paper lowers scores for everyone, which usually lowers the cut-off too.
Number of applicants: Many applicants for few posts push the cut-off up, because the shortlist is a multiple of the posts, not of the applicants.
No negative marking: Candidates who attempt all 100 questions score higher, so the cut-off can rise.
Category and domicile: The shortlist is drawn separately for each vertical category, so a reserved-category cut-off can differ from the unreserved one.
How to set your target
Use mock scores as your benchmark: Take 8 to 10 full-length mocks in the real pattern of 100 questions in 2 hours. Your average, not your best score, is your honest level.
Build a margin: Aim to score well above your recent average in the last two weeks, since a dynamic cut-off has no safe line.
Check sectional balance: GK and reasoning carry 40 marks, and the other two sections carry 30 marks each. A very weak section is hard to offset.
Protect the typing marks: Reaching Phase 2 only helps if you cross 30 out of 100 in typing, and every extra mark counts in final merit.
For a realistic benchmark, you can attempt MP Police ASI mock tests on Testkart and track your score trend. The scoring rules are on the exam pattern page.
