MP Vyapam Group 4 Syllabus 2026: Subject-wise Topics and Study Plan
The MP Vyapam Group 4 syllabus covers six subjects tested in one computer-based paper: General Knowledge, General Hindi, General English, General Mathematics, General Aptitude and General Computer Knowledge. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) uses this test to recruit Assistant Grade 3, Stenotypist, Stenographer, Data Entry Operator and similar posts across state departments.
MPESB names these subjects in its rulebook but does not publish a detailed topic-wise syllabus. The topic lists below are built from the 2024 rulebook and from questions asked in earlier Group 4 papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. The next Group 4 test is listed in the MPESB 2026 exam calendar, so recheck the subjects once the new rulebook is released.
Table of Contents
Syllabus at a Glance
All six subjects share one paper. The rulebook does not fix the number of questions for each subject, so every subject needs attention.
Subject | What it tests | Level |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge | Madhya Pradesh GK, Indian history, geography, polity, economy, science and current affairs | Class 12 and general awareness |
General Hindi | Grammar, vocabulary and comprehension in Hindi | Class 10 to 12 |
General English | Grammar, vocabulary and comprehension in English | Class 10 to 12 |
General Mathematics | Arithmetic, basic algebra, mensuration and data reading | Class 10 |
General Aptitude | Verbal and non-verbal reasoning | General |
General Computer Knowledge | Computer fundamentals, MS Office, internet and networking basics | Basic to working level |
The paper has 100 questions for 100 marks, to be answered in 2 hours. For the full marking scheme.
Key Points Before You Start
No fixed subject split: Some websites show a fixed number of questions per subject. The official rulebook does not fix this, so do not drop any subject.
No negative marking in the 2024 test: Wrong answers did not cost marks, so wide coverage pays more than deep coverage of a few topics.
Bilingual paper: Questions appear in Hindi and English, except the language sections. Read both versions when a question looks confusing.
Madhya Pradesh focus: State-level GK carries real weight in MPESB papers. Many generic syllabus lists online leave it out.
Skills are separate: CPCT and shorthand are eligibility requirements for many posts. They are not part of the written paper, but you must have them before you apply.
General Knowledge Syllabus
General Knowledge is the widest subject in the MP Vyapam Group 4 syllabus. Split it into three parts so nothing is missed.

General Hindi Syllabus
General Hindi questions test grammar rules and word knowledge more than long reading. Most topics are short and scoring once the rules are clear.
Area | Topics to cover |
|---|---|
Shabd gyan (vocabulary) | Paryayvachi (synonyms), vilom (antonyms), anekarthi shabd, shrutisam bhinnarthak shabd, vakyansh ke liye ek shabd |
Vyakaran (grammar) | Sandhi and sandhi vichchhed, samas, upsarg and pratyay, ling, vachan, karak, kaal |
Shuddhi (correction) | Vartani (spelling) errors, vakya shuddhi, shabd roop |
Muhavare and lokoktiyan | Meanings and correct use of common idioms and proverbs |
Comprehension | Apathit gadyansh (unseen passage) and questions based on it |
Sahitya basics | Well-known Hindi writers, poets and their works |
General English Syllabus
The English section checks school-level grammar and reading. Students from Hindi-medium schools should give it steady daily time rather than leaving it to the end.
Area | Topics to cover |
|---|---|
Grammar | Parts of speech, articles, tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, conjunctions, modals |
Sentence skills | Error spotting, sentence improvement, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech |
Vocabulary | Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, spellings, idioms and phrases |
Reading | Reading comprehension, cloze test, fill in the blanks, sentence rearrangement |
General Mathematics Syllabus
Mathematics questions are arithmetic-based and set at about Class 10 level. Speed comes from practice and from knowing shortcuts for percentages and ratios.
Area | Topics to cover |
|---|---|
Number system | Simplification, BODMAS, fractions and decimals, HCF and LCM, square roots, divisibility, indices and surds |
Arithmetic core | Percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest |
Applied arithmetic | Time and work, pipes and cisterns, time, speed and distance, trains, boats and streams, ages, partnership, mixture and alligation |
Mensuration | Area and perimeter of plane figures, surface area and volume of cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and sphere |
Algebra and data | Simple and quadratic equations, number series, bar graphs, pie charts, tables |
General Aptitude (Reasoning) Syllabus
The aptitude section is mostly reasoning. These questions are quick to solve once you know the common question types, which makes them a good place to gain marks.
Type | Topics to cover |
|---|---|
Verbal reasoning | Analogy, classification (odd one out), number and letter series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking and order |
Logical reasoning | Syllogism, statement and conclusion, seating arrangement, puzzles, Venn diagrams |
Non-verbal reasoning | Mirror and water images, figure series, paper folding, embedded figures, counting figures |
Others | Calendar, clock, mathematical operations, alphabet test |
General Computer Knowledge Syllabus
Computer knowledge matters more in Group 4 than in many other exams, because most selected candidates will work on computers daily. Questions are practical and often based on software use.
Area | Topics to cover |
|---|---|
Fundamentals | History and generations of computers, hardware and software, input and output devices, CPU, memory and storage units |
Operating system | Windows basics, files and folders, control panel, common shortcuts |
MS Office | MS Word (formatting, mail merge, tables), MS Excel (formulas, functions, charts), MS PowerPoint (slides, transitions) |

Security and e-governance | Viruses and antivirus, cyber security basics, digital payments, e-governance services |
Terms | Computer abbreviations and common terminology |
Skills Outside the Written Syllabus: CPCT and Shorthand
Many Group 4 posts ask for skills that the written test does not check. You need these before you apply, so plan for them early.
CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test): Conducted by MAP_IT, it has a computer MCQ section and Hindi and English typing tests. Most computer-related Group 4 posts ask for a valid CPCT scorecard. Check exam dates on the official CPCT website.
Shorthand: Stenotypist and Stenographer posts need a Hindi or English shorthand certificate at the speed set in the rulebook for that post.
Overlap with the written test: CPCT preparation also covers much of the General Computer Knowledge section, so studying for both together saves time.
Read the post code table on the official MPESB website to confirm which skill your chosen post needs.
How Questions Are Usually Framed
Knowing the topic list is only half the job. The way MPESB frames questions tells you how deep to study each area. The examples below show common styles from earlier Group 4 papers, written in our own words.
Subject | Typical question style | What it means for your study |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge | One-line factual questions, such as which river a dam stands on or which district a national park falls in | Learn facts with location; maps help more than long notes |
General Hindi | Pick the correct sandhi vichchhed, the correct spelling or the meaning of an idiom | Practise rule-based options; most questions need no reading time |
General English | Find the part of a sentence with an error, or pick the passive form of a sentence | Revise grammar rules with short drills, not long essays |
General Mathematics | Two-step word problems on percentage, profit or time and work | Focus on speed with standard formulas rather than advanced topics |
General Aptitude | Find the next term in a series, decode a word, or trace a family relation | Learn the common patterns; each type follows a small set of logics |
Computer Knowledge | Name the shortcut for an action, the function for a calculation, or expand an abbreviation | Practise on a real computer while you study; hands-on use sticks better |
Previous year papers are the best way to confirm these styles for yourself. Solve at least two full past papers before you finalise your study plan, and note which subjects took you the longest.
Reliable Study Sources
NCERT books: Class 6 to 10 history, geography, polity and science books build a strong base for General Knowledge.
Official state sources: Madhya Pradesh government websites and annual reports are reliable for state schemes, districts and statistics.
School grammar books: A standard Class 9 and 10 Hindi and English grammar book covers most of the language sections.
Previous year papers: Earlier MPESB Group 4 papers show the real difficulty level and the repeat topics.
Monthly current affairs notes: Short notes made from a daily newspaper are easier to revise than large compilations.
Which Topics to Start With
If you are short on time, start with topics that are frequent, quick to learn and useful across sections.
Subject | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge | MP GK and the last six months of current affairs | State-specific questions appear regularly and many candidates neglect them |
General Hindi | Sandhi, samas, synonyms and antonyms | Rule-based topics that become easy marks with practice |
General English | Error spotting, voice and narration | Fixed rules and frequent question types |
General Mathematics | Percentage, ratio and average | They are the base for profit and loss, interest and data questions |
General Aptitude | Series, analogy and coding-decoding | Fast to solve and common in every paper |
Computer Knowledge | MS Office shortcuts and functions | Practical questions that also support CPCT |
