Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education – Class 10

The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) is the official education board that conducts the Class 10 (High School) examinations in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.

MPBSE Class 10 Study Material

The MP Board Class 10 exam, officially the High School Certificate (HSC) examination, is conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), Bhopal. Around 7 to 8 lakh regular and private (swadhyayi) students write it every year, and the 2027 main exam is scheduled from 24 February to 18 March 2027.

This page brings the 2027 cycle together in one place for students and parents: the time table, subjects, the 75 plus 25 marks scheme, passing rules, the second exam in June, and how to prepare. Two changes matter this year. The "best of five" passing rule no longer applies to Class 10 from the 2026-27 session, and Mathematics continues with separate Standard and Basic papers.

Subjects in MP Board Class 10

A regular Class 10 student writes six board subjects: three languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Languages include Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Sindhi, depending on the scheme the school offers. Vocational (NSQF) subjects, Artificial Intelligence, Painting, Music and Computer are also offered at many schools.

  • Mathematics Standard or Basic: Both papers use the same textbook. Standard is slightly harder and suits students planning Maths in Class 11. A September 2026 board decision lets Basic Maths students choose Maths in Class 11 and allowed a free switch from Standard to Basic before the exam form was filled.

  • Science: 13 chapters across chemistry, biology and physics, with practical work in the internal 25 marks.

  • Social Science: History, Geography, Political Science and Economics, including a map question in the theory paper.

MP Board Class 10 Exam Pattern and Blueprint

Each subject carries 100 marks for regular students. The written paper is 75 marks and 3 hours long, and 25 marks come from internal assessment such as projects, practicals and school tests. For the 2026-27 session the board has moved to a more concept-based paper with fewer long answers.

This structure applies to Maths, Science and Hindi. Social Science replaces one long answer with a 4-mark map question, and English follows its own reading, writing, grammar and textbook sections.

What this means for you

  • 40 percent of marks are objective: 30 marks reward exact recall of definitions, formulas and dates, so revise textbook lines, not just ideas.

  • Two-mark answers decide the score: 24 marks come from short 2-mark questions. Practise writing precise answers of three or four lines.

  • Internal marks are in your control: Submit projects and practical files on time, because 25 marks are awarded by the school.

Passing Marks and the End of Best of Five

Students need at least 33 percent in each subject to pass. From the 2026-27 session the "best of five" method, under which a student could pass by clearing five of six subjects, no longer applies to Class 10. In 2027 every subject counts, so a weak subject can no longer be dropped from the result.

The board also has a grace marks provision for students who narrowly miss passing, applied as per its result rules. Details on passing, merit lists and pass trends are on our MP Board Class 10 passing marks page.

Second Exam: The Second Chance Scheme

MPBSE replaced the old supplementary exam with a second examination from 2026. It is open to students who failed one or more subjects and to students who passed but want to improve their marks. The marksheet does not carry a "supplementary" label.

  • When: In 2026 the Class 10 second exam ran from 7 to 19 May, and the result came on 16 June 2026. For 2027 the schedule has moved to June, reported as 15 to 30 June 2027.

  • How to apply: Online through the MP Online portal within the window after the main result, or through your school.

  • Fee in 2026: Rs. 500 for one subject, Rs. 1,000 for two, Rs. 1,500 for three or four, and Rs. 2,000 for more than four.

Fees and windows can be revised each year, so confirm them in the board's notice after the 2027 result.

How to Prepare for MP Board Class 10 2027

With the main exam starting on 24 February, students have roughly four months from mid-October. A simple plan works better than a long timetable you cannot follow.

  1. October to November, finish the textbook: Complete every chapter in Maths, Science and Social Science. Read the textbook line by line, because objective questions come from it.

  2. December, first revision and short notes: Make one-page notes per chapter with formulas, definitions, diagrams and dates.

  3. January, timed papers: Write one full 3-hour paper per subject each week in the 75-mark pattern, and check it against the board's model papers.

  4. February, close the gaps: Revise your error log, practise maps and diagrams, and keep two days free before Hindi, Maths and Science.
