MP Board Class 10 Exam Pattern 2027: Blueprint and Marking Scheme

The MP Board Class 10 exam pattern for 2027 is set by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) for the 2026-27 session. Every subject carries 100 marks for regular students: a 75-mark written paper of 3 hours and 25 marks of internal assessment from the school. Papers run from 24 February to 18 March 2027.

For 2026-27 the board revised the question paper to a more concept-based format. The objective section stays at 30 marks, 2-mark questions now carry 24 marks, and the number of long answers has come down from four to three. This page sets out the blueprint, explains how each question type is marked, and shows how to use your 3 hours well.

Key Changes to Know in 2026-27

  • Long answers cut to three: The revised paper has three 4-mark long answers in place of four, which shifts weight to shorter answers.

  • Short answers without the old choice arrangement: As reported, the three 3-mark questions are now asked without the earlier either-or structure, so you cannot skip a topic and rely on the alternative.

  • Best of five ends: Every subject must be passed, so the pattern of each paper now matters equally.

  • Two Maths papers: Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Basic are separate papers on 5 March 2027, set at different difficulty levels.

Older pages may still show an 80-mark theory paper with 20 internal marks, or four long answers. Follow the board's 2026-27 marking scheme and model papers.

MP Board Class 10 Blueprint: Question-wise Marks

Internal Assessment: 25 Marks

Internal marks are awarded by the school and sent to the board. They are not part of the 3-hour paper.

  • Mathematics: Reported as 5 marks from the quarterly exam, 5 from the half-yearly exam and 15 from three projects.

  • Science: Practical work, practical record and projects, assessed during the practical exams.

  • Languages and Social Science: Project work, assignments and school tests as listed in the board's subject marking scheme.

  • Private candidates: Swadhyayi candidates do not have school-based internal assessment and follow the scheme the board sets for private students.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

There is no negative marking in the MP Board Class 10 exam. A wrong objective answer simply scores zero, so attempt every part. In descriptive answers, examiners give step marks for correct working in Maths and Science, and value-points marking in Social Science and languages.

What the Pattern Means for You

  • Objective marks are 40 percent of the paper: 30 marks come from 1-mark items. Most come straight from textbook lines, definitions and formulas.

  • 2-mark answers are the biggest block of descriptive marks: Twelve questions at 2 marks each reward short, exact answers. Aim for three or four lines with the key term underlined.

  • Long answers are fewer but still worth 12 marks: Use headings, a diagram where possible and a one-line conclusion.

  • Do not lean on internal marks alone: Several sources state that theory and internal parts must each reach 33 percent, which is about 25 of 75 in theory. Confirm the rule in your school's copy of the marking scheme and aim well above it.

Practise in the Current Pattern

The quickest way to get used to the new structure is to write complete 75-mark papers under a 3-hour limit from January. Use the board's model papers, available on the MPBSE model paper page, to see the official style.
