MP Board Class 10 Eligibility 2027: Regular and Private Students
MP Board Class 10 Eligibility 2027: Who Can Appear
MP Board Class 10 eligibility for the 2027 exam is set by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) through its admission and examination rules for the 2026-27 session. Students can appear as regular candidates through a school affiliated to MPBSE, or as private (swadhyayi) candidates through the board's own process.
This page explains who can sit the High School exam from 24 February 2027, what the exam form requires, how subject and Maths paper choices work, and who can take the second exam in June. Exact conditions are in the board's prospectus for 2026-27 (Praveshniti), which is a scanned PDF. Where a point below comes from the press or from previous cycles, it is labelled so you can confirm it with your school.

Educational Qualification
Class 9 pass: You must have passed Class 9 from MPBSE or an equivalent recognised board before taking admission to Class 10.
Students from other boards: Students moving from CBSE, ICSE or another state board need a transfer certificate and, where required, an eligibility or migration certificate as per board rules.
Registration and enrolment: Students must hold a valid MPBSE enrolment, normally made in Class 9 through the school.
Age Requirement
MPBSE does not set an upper age limit for the Class 10 exam. Earlier rules set a minimum age of 13 for Class 9 admission. For the 2026-27 session the board relaxed this, as reported in July 2026 after a case at the Jabalpur Bench of the MP High Court, so students under 13 could register for Class 9. A board order dated 31 July 2026 covers this relaxation. Students who were affected should check with their school that their enrolment is valid before the Class 10 form is filled.
Regular Students
School-based form: The school fills the exam form online through the MP Online portal and submits the fee.
Internal assessment: Regular students earn 25 internal marks in each subject, so project and practical work must be completed at school.
Admit card: Issued through the school, expected in January or February 2027.
Private (Swadhyayi) Candidates
Who can apply: Students who have passed Class 9, or who meet the board's conditions for private candidates, can appear without attending a school.
How to apply: Through the MPBSE portal or the designated centre within the board's private-candidate window.
Marking: Private candidates have no school-based internal assessment and follow the marking scheme the board sets for them.
Results: In 2026 the pass rate for private Class 10 candidates was much lower than for regular students, as reported at 26.38 percent. Private candidates should plan full syllabus practice well before February.
Subject Choice and the Maths Option
A regular student takes six board subjects: three languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Schools may also offer NSQF vocational subjects, Artificial Intelligence, Painting, Music and Computer.
Standard or Basic Maths: The Maths paper is chosen in the exam form. In 2026 changes were allowed until 10 January, as reported.
Free switch for 2026-27: As reported in September 2026, students who took Standard Maths in Class 9 could switch to Basic Maths without a fee before filling the Class 10 exam form.
Effect on Class 11: Under the same September 2026 decision, students who pass Class 10 with Basic Maths can choose Mathematics in Class 11, subject to school and stream rules.
Exam Form and Fee
The 2027 exam form was filled online in the board's window, and the board extended the late-fee deadline to 11 October 2026 by an order dated 7 October 2026. Exam fees for 2026-27 are set by a board order dated 18 February 2026. A separate order dated 13 August 2026 waives fees for students who have lost both parents. Check the MPBSE circulars page for any further extension.
Who Can Take the Second Exam
The second exam replaces the old supplementary exam. Students who appeared in the main exam can apply after the result.
Failed students: Can reappear in the subjects they did not pass.
Improvement candidates: Students who passed can reappear in chosen subjects to raise their marks.
Absent through illness or emergency: As reported when the scheme was announced, such students can also use the second exam.
Who Is Not Eligible
No Class 9 pass: Students who have not passed Class 9 or an equivalent cannot take the exam.
No valid enrolment or exam form: Students whose form was not submitted, or whose fee was not paid, will not receive an admit card.
Unfair means cases: Students barred by the board in an earlier exam cannot appear during the period of the bar.
