MP Board Class 10 Passing Marks 2027: Pass Criteria, Merit and Results

The MP Board Class 10 exam has no rank cut-off. When students and parents search for the MP Board 10th cut-off, they usually mean the passing marks set by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) and the scores needed for a good division or a place in the state merit list.

This page sets out the 33 percent passing rule for 2027, what changes now that "best of five" has ended for Class 10, recent pass percentages and toppers' scores, and the second exam option if you miss a subject. Use the figures as benchmarks, and confirm the exact rules in the board's 2026-27 marking scheme.

Every subject requires at least 33 percent. Several sources state that theory and internal parts must each be passed separately, while others describe the 33 percent as a combined subject total. The board's marking scheme is the final word, so the safe target is at least 25 of 75 in every theory paper.

Best of Five Has Ended for Class 10

Until 2025-26, a Class 10 student could pass by clearing five of the six board subjects. Under a School Education Department order dated 23 December 2024, this "best of five" method ends for Class 10 from the 2026-27 session. For the 2027 exam you need 33 percent in all six subjects to pass outright.

Older pages may still say that failing one subject is acceptable, so follow the 2026-27 rules. If you are weak in one subject, give it daily time from now rather than counting on the other five.

Grace Marks

MPBSE has a grace marks provision for students who fall just short of passing in a subject. The board applies it under its own result rules, and the exact limit is not published in a form students can rely on in advance. Plan to pass on your own marks and treat grace marks as a safety net only.

In 2026 about 7.87 lakh students appeared and 5,78,328 passed, and just over 4.31 lakh passed in first division, as reported. Girls passed at 77.52 percent. The private (swadhyayi) pass rate was reported at 26.38 percent. In 2025, 212 students made the state merit list.

Results change every year with paper difficulty, evaluation and the number of candidates. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above the minimum rather than a bare pass.

Division and Merit List

  • First division: Generally awarded at 60 percent or above in aggregate, which is 300 of 500. Confirm the division bands shown on your marksheet.

  • State merit list: The board announces toppers and a merit list with the result. Recent toppers have scored 497 to 500 out of 500, so merit places need near-perfect papers.

  • District merit: Districts also recognise their top scorers, which are usually a few marks below the state list.

If You Miss a Subject: The Second Exam

A student who fails one or more subjects does not lose the year. MPBSE now holds a second examination instead of the old supplementary exam, and the marksheet carries no "supplementary" label. Students who passed but want higher marks can also appear. For 2027 the second exam is reported for 15 to 30 June 2027. In 2026 the fee was Rs. 500 for one subject and rose with the number of subjects.

How to Set Your Target

  1. Secure the pass first: Aim for at least 35 of 75 in every theory paper in practice tests, which leaves a margin above the 25-mark minimum.

  2. Protect internal marks: Complete projects and practicals on time; they are the easiest 25 marks.

  3. Then push for first division: Scoring 45 to 50 of 75 in theory with good internal marks puts most students above 60 percent.

  4. Track scores weekly: Write timed 75-mark papers and log your score per subject from January.
