Rajasthan VDO Syllabus: Subject-wise Topics for Gram Vikas Adhikari

The Rajasthan VDO syllabus is set by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) for the Gram Vikas Adhikari direct recruitment exam. For the 2025 cycle (Advertisement 03/2025), the written exam was one objective paper of 160 questions for 200 marks, and the syllabus was divided into eight subject areas, from General Hindi to Basic Computer.

This page sets out every subject with its marks and a practical topic checklist, shows where the VDO syllabus overlaps with the CET Graduation Level, and gives a phased plan to finish the syllabus. The topic lists follow the syllabus RSSB issued for the 2025 exam, arranged into study units. Confirm the final wording against the syllabus PDF that comes with the next notification, because RSSB can revise it.

Key Changes to Know

  • One paper after CET: The 2021 cycle had a preliminary and a main exam. From the 2025 cycle, the CET Graduation Level does the screening and the VDO exam is a single paper.

  • No reasoning section: The 2025 VDO scheme has no separate reasoning or mental ability section. Many older pages still list reasoning, so follow the current syllabus.

  • Rural development sits inside Rajasthan economy: Panchayati Raj, the 73rd Amendment, wasteland and drought-prone area development and cooperatives are tested under agricultural and economic resources, not as a separate paper.

  • Rajasthan focus throughout: 90 of the 200 marks come from Rajasthan geography, economy, history and culture.

Overlap Between CET and the VDO Exam

Most VDO candidates prepare for the CET Graduation Level and the VDO exam in the same year. RSSB notifies the CET syllabus separately, so check it, but the areas below are shared and can be studied once.

Is There a Syllabus for Interview or Document Verification?

No. The Gram Vikas Adhikari recruitment has no interview, so the written exam syllabus is the only syllabus you need. Document verification is a check of certificates, not a test. What you need for that stage is paperwork, not study:

  • Degree and marksheets: Proof that your graduation result was declared within the date the notification fixes.

  • Computer certificate: One of the qualifications listed in the notification, such as O Level, COPA, DPCS, a computer diploma or RS-CIT.

  • CET scorecard: The CET Graduation Level result accepted for that cycle.

  • Category and domicile certificates: In the format and validity period the notification requires.

Collect these while you prepare, so that a missing certificate does not cost you a seat after a good score.

High-Yield Areas and Study Sources

RSSB does not publish topic-wise weightage, so the priorities below come from the structure of the syllabus and the marks attached to each section. Use them to decide what to study deeply and what to cover quickly.

Priority

Areas

Why it matters

Highest

Rajasthan geography, economy and rural development, history and culture

Three sections of 30 marks each, all Rajasthan-specific

High

General Hindi, Mathematics

30 marks each and scoring with regular practice

Medium

General English, current affairs and general science

20 marks each; steady revision keeps them safe

Quick wins

Basic Computer

10 marks from a short, fixed topic list

Reliable Sources

  • School textbooks: Rajasthan Board books for Rajasthan history, geography and culture give a clean base before you move to exam-oriented notes.

  • State government documents: The Economic Review of Rajasthan and the state budget speech are useful for agriculture, irrigation, industry and scheme facts.

  • Panchayati Raj Department material: Scheme guidelines and departmental pages help with rural development questions, which link directly to the VDO's job.

  • Previous papers: Earlier VDO and other RSSB papers show the depth at which Rajasthan GK is asked.

Use one main source per subject and revise it several times, rather than reading many books once.

Common Mistakes While Covering the Syllabus

  • Studying reasoning in depth: Reasoning is not a section in the 2025 VDO scheme. If you are also preparing for the CET, study it for the CET, but do not take time away from Rajasthan GK for it.

  • Treating Rajasthan GK as one subject: Geography, economy and history are three separate 30-mark sections. Give each its own notes and test schedule.

  • Ignoring the economy section: It is easy to spend most of your time on history and lose marks on irrigation projects, industries and Panchayati Raj. This section deserves equal time.

  • Leaving Hindi grammar to the end: Sandhi, samas and word correction need repeated practice. A late start shows up as careless errors.

  • Reading current affairs without revision: Daily reading helps only when you revise it monthly. Keep a short note for Rajasthan schemes and appointments.

How to Cover the VDO Syllabus

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, the Rajasthan base: Rajasthan geography and history and culture, with daily Hindi grammar for 30 minutes and 20 maths questions.

  2. Weeks 4 to 10, add economy and current affairs: Agriculture, irrigation, industries, Panchayati Raj and rural schemes, plus 30 to 40 minutes of news a day with monthly notes.

  3. Weeks 7 to 10, short sections: English grammar, basic computer and general science.

  4. From week 8, topic tests: Short timed tests for each subject to find weak units early.

  5. Final phase, full papers: Full 160-question papers in three hours, same-day analysis and error-log revision.
