Vacancy Details
Institution type | Posts |
|---|---|

Total | 2,607 |
The post-wise split covers more than 20 subjects, including Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Geography, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Subject-wise numbers differ between published summaries and some do not add up to the stated total, so we do not quote them here. These are indicative figures. Check the subject and category breakup in the official notification PDF.
Eligibility
Educational qualification
The general rule is a Master's degree in the concerned subject from a recognised university and a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution. Some subjects have their own rules. For example, Physical Education asks for a bachelor's degree with M.P.Ed, and Biology is reported to accept a Master's in Botany or Zoology. Read the rule for your subject in the notification.
Age limit
The minimum age is 21 years as on 1 July 2026. The upper limit is reported as 62 years, and reserved categories get relaxation as per Uttar Pradesh government rules. Confirm the exact upper limit and relaxation in the notification.
Other conditions
One application per subject and school type: You can apply only once for a subject in a given category of institution.
Gender and school type: Male candidates cannot apply for girls' institutions. Female candidates may apply for either, but can choose only one category for a subject.

Fill the form: Choose your subject and institution type, and enter your details.
Upload documents: Add the photograph, signature and certificates in the sizes the portal asks for.

Exam Pattern
Stage | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Written test (offline, OMR) | 120 (30 General Knowledge, 90 subject) | 360 | 2 hours |
Interview | Not applicable | 40 | Not applicable |
Each correct answer earns 3 marks and each wrong answer costs 1 mark. An answer with more than one option marked is also reported to cost 1 mark.
What this means for you:
Guessing is costly: A wrong answer cancels a third of a correct one, so guess only when you can remove at least one option.
Subject carries most marks: 90 questions, or 270 of 360 marks, come from your own subject.
General Knowledge is compulsory: 30 questions carry 90 marks and are the easiest to improve with steady revision.
Older pages may still show the previous cycle's paper, so follow the official notification.
Syllabus Summary
Part | Important topics |
|---|---|
General Knowledge | Indian history and culture, geography, polity and Constitution, economy, general science, Uttar Pradesh GK, current affairs |
Subject paper | Postgraduate-level topics of the concerned subject as given in the commission's revised syllabus |
UPESSC has published a revised syllabus on its portal. The topic lists here are a working summary, not an official list, so download the file for your subject from the official site and use ours as a checklist.
Selection Process
Written test: 120 questions, 360 marks, with negative marking.
Interview: 40 marks, for candidates shortlisted on written marks. The shortlisting ratio was not verified.
Document verification: Shortlisted candidates are called to verify qualifications and category claims.
Final merit: Based on the combined written and interview marks, out of 400.
Salary
The post is reported at Pay Level 8, with a pay band of Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100, plus allowances as per Uttar Pradesh rules. In-hand salary varies with allowances and deductions, so treat any monthly figure from coaching sites as an estimate and not an official figure.
How to Prepare
With the written test on 15 and 16 December 2026, the weeks left decide how you split your time. Cover your subject syllabus first, since it holds 270 marks, and keep General Knowledge as a daily 30 to 40 minute habit with short notes.
Weeks 1 to 4: Finish the weak units of your subject and revise the General Knowledge basics.
Weeks 5 to 7: Take topic-wise tests and practise previous questions for your subject.
Final weeks: Attempt full-length mocks in the 120-question format, analyse each one the same day and revise your error log.
Practise the +3 and -1 scheme so your guessing habits are tested before the real paper.
Cut-off Reference
The 2026 cut-off will exist only after the December exam. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat earlier figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
