UP PGT Syllabus 2026: Topic-wise Guide
The UP PGT syllabus for 2026 has two parts: a compulsory General Knowledge section and a paper on your own subject, both set by the Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Commission (UPESSC) for Advertisement No. 06/2026. Knowing how marks are split between them tells you where to spend your remaining weeks.
UPESSC has published a revised syllabus on its portal. Treat that file as final. The topic lists below are a working checklist built from published summaries of it, so check each point against the official document for your subject. Open the official syllabus and scheme page to download it.

Key Changes to Know
Revised syllabus: UPESSC has released a revised syllabus, so use the latest file and ignore older subject PDFs.
Same General Knowledge as TGT: The General Knowledge section is reported to be common to the TGT and PGT papers.
Different paper from the last cycle: The earlier cycle (Advertisement 02/2022) used a different paper, so older topic-wise pages may not match.
General Knowledge Syllabus
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
History and culture | Indian history, culture and the freedom movement | Modern history and the freedom struggle |
Geography | Physical, social and economic geography of India and Uttar Pradesh | Uttar Pradesh geography |
Polity | Constitution, governance and local self-government | Fundamental rights and duties |
Economy | Planning, sustainable development, reforms and national income | Basic terms and recent reforms |
General science | Basic physics, chemistry, biology and technology | Everyday science concepts |
Uttar Pradesh GK | History, culture, festivals, demographics, agriculture and government schemes | State schemes and census facts |
Current affairs | National and international events of significance | Last six months of events |
With 30 questions and 90 marks, this section is small but fully scoring. Uttar Pradesh GK and current affairs reward steady reading, so give them a fixed daily slot instead of leaving them for the last week.
Subject Paper Syllabus
The subject paper has 90 questions and 270 marks, so it decides your rank. It follows the postgraduate-level content of your subject, as set out in the revised syllabus. The depth is our reading of the scheme and not an official statement, so confirm it in the PDF for your subject.
Language subjects
English: A language part (comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, punctuation) and a literature part covering British, American and Indian English writers.
Hindi: History of Hindi literature, prose forms, poetics, linguistics and Sanskrit literature in Hindi.
Sanskrit and Urdu: Follow the subject file on the official page, since published summaries do not give reliable topic lists.
Science and mathematics
Mathematics: Algebra and determinants, calculus and analysis, coordinate geometry and statics.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology: Core postgraduate units of each subject. Use the official file for the unit list, as summaries differ.
Social science and others
History, Geography, Civics, Economics, Sociology, Psychology: Postgraduate units as listed in the official subject file.
Commerce, Education, Home Science, Agriculture, Music, Drawing and Physical Education: Check the subject file, since no reliable common list is published.
Interview
The interview carries 40 marks. No separate syllabus is published for it. It is reported to test subject knowledge, teaching aptitude and communication, so keep your subject notes and a short teaching demo ready.
How to Cover the Syllabus
Week 1: Download your subject file, mark each unit as strong, average or weak, and set a daily General Knowledge slot.
Weeks 2 to 5: Finish weak units first, then average ones, making short notes and a formula or fact sheet.
Weeks 6 to 8: Take unit-wise tests and solve previous questions for your subject.
Final phase: Attempt full-length mocks, analyse them the same day and revise your error log.
