UP PGT Cut Off: Benchmarks and Target Score

The UP PGT cut off is the minimum score needed to be shortlisted for the interview and, finally, selected in your subject and category. For the current cycle, Advertisement No. 06/2026, the written exam is on 15 and 16 December 2026, so no cut-off exists yet.

This page explains how the cut-off works and how to set a target. We have not found an official, verified cut-off table for the cycle that just ended (Advertisement 02/2022), so we do not print one. Websites that show category-wise marks are publishing estimates, not official figures. Check upessc.up.gov.in for any official cut-off release.

How the Cut-off Works

Cut-offs are set subject-wise and category-wise, and boys' and girls' institutions are listed separately. For this cycle the written test is out of 360 marks, so any figure from the previous cycle's 425-mark paper is not comparable.

What Affects the Cut-off

  • Paper difficulty: A harder paper lowers the marks needed to rank well.

  • Vacancies in your subject: Subjects with many posts, such as Hindi or Sanskrit, tend to close at a different mark from subjects with few.

  • Number of applicants: More candidates for a subject push the cut-off up.

  • Negative marking: The +3 and -1 scheme rewards accuracy, so careless guessing lowers your final score.

How to Set Your Target

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

  1. Aim high on the subject paper: It holds 270 of the 360 marks, so a strong subject score decides your rank.

  2. Bank the General Knowledge marks: Target at least 20 correct out of 30, which is 60 marks before any deduction.

  3. Track accuracy: Keep your mock accuracy above 85 percent in the subject paper before you add attempts.

  4. Plan for the interview: The 40 interview marks can move your final merit, so prepare for it alongside the written test.
