State Government Recruitment

UP Police

UP Police is a recruitment exam, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.

UP Police recruitment is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), Lucknow, which fills posts such as Constable, Sub-Inspector (SI), Jail Warder, Radio Operator and Fireman across the state police. The biggest drive running right now is the Constable Civil Police and Equivalent Posts Direct Recruitment-2025, notified on 31 December 2025 for 32,679 posts. Its written exam was held from 8 to 10 June 2026 and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is under way in October 2026.

This page brings together everything a UP Police aspirant needs in one place: vacancies, eligibility, physical standards, the exam pattern for Constable and SI, a syllabus summary, salary, the latest cut-off and a practical preparation plan. Where figures are tentative or reported rather than official, we say so, so you know what to verify on the official website.

UP Police Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates who were still appearing in the qualifying exam were not eligible. For SI posts, a bachelor's degree from a recognised university is required.

Applications are accepted only online. For the next cycle, the process will follow the same broad steps:

  2. Log in, open the active recruitment and fill in personal, educational and category details.

  3. Mark your post preference order carefully, because it decides which cadre you are allotted.

  4. Upload your photograph and signature in the size given in the notification.

  5. Pay the fee online and download the confirmation page.

Common reasons for rejection include a mismatch between the name or date of birth and the Class 10 certificate, an invalid category certificate format, and unclear photographs.

The paper is objective, OMR based and lasts 2 hours, with 2 marks per correct answer. The notification fixes the total but not an exact split, so the section-wise numbers above reflect recent papers. Minimum qualifying marks are 30% for Unreserved, 25% for EWS and OBC, and 20% for SC and ST candidates.

The 2024 Constable exam deducted 0.5 marks for each wrong answer. Reports on the 2025-26 notification say negative marking was not applied this cycle. Older pages may still show the old rule, so confirm the marking scheme in each new notification before deciding how much to guess.

The SI exam is a 2-hour online test with no negative marking. Candidates need at least 35% in every subject and 50% overall to qualify.

What this means for you:

  • Speed decides Constable merit: You get under a minute per question, and the 2026 cut-offs crossed 250 out of 300 for some categories, so accuracy at speed matters more than covering rare topics.

  • No weak subject for SI: A score below 35% in any one section disqualifies you, however well you do elsewhere.

  • Hindi carries real weight: General Hindi is a full section in both exams and is often the easiest place to gain marks quickly.

UP Police Syllabus

Subject

Important topics

General Knowledge

Indian history and national movement, geography, polity, economy, science, UP GK, current affairs, cyber crime and basic laws for women and children

General Hindi

Synonyms, antonyms, sandhi, samas, muhavare, lokoktiyan, tatsam-tadbhav, sentence correction, Hindi writers and works

Numerical and Mental Ability

Number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, interest, average, time and work, time and distance, mensuration, coding, series

Mental Aptitude, IQ and Reasoning

Police and public relations, law and order, analogies, classification, blood relations, directions, figures, statements and conclusions

The SI paper uses the same four areas but adds basic law and the Constitution to the general knowledge section. Topic-by-topic lists for both posts are in the UP Police syllabus page.

Selection Process

  1. Written exam: Screening and merit stage. Candidates are shortlisted on normalised marks, category-wise.

  2. Document Verification and Physical Standard Test (DV/PST): Original certificates are checked and height, chest and weight are measured. This stage is qualifying.

  3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Male candidates must run 4.8 km in 25 minutes and female candidates 2.4 km in 14 minutes. PET is qualifying only.

  4. Medical examination: Candidates in the provisional selection list are examined for fitness before final appointment.

For SI, the written exam is followed by DV/PST and PET in the same way, and the final merit list is drawn from written exam marks.

Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other state allowances are added to basic pay, so the monthly in-hand amount is higher than the starting basic. The exact figure depends on the posting city and the current DA rate, so treat any in-hand number you see online as indicative. Constables can rise to Head Constable and then to SI through departmental promotion exams conducted by the same board.

How to Prepare for UP Police Exams

With cut-offs this high, preparation is less about finishing the syllabus and more about getting most questions right within the time. A practical sequence looks like this:

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, build basics: Revise Class 6 to 10 maths and science, start General Hindi grammar, and read one source of current affairs daily.

  2. Weeks 4 to 10, add UP GK and reasoning: Cover UP history, geography, culture and schemes, plus daily reasoning sets of 20 to 25 questions.

  3. Weeks 8 onwards, timed practice: Take sectional tests, then full-length papers in 2 hours, and keep an error log of every mistake.

  4. Parallel physical training: Start running early. A 4.8 km run in 25 minutes needs weeks of build-up, and PET usually follows the result within a few months.
