UP Police Constable Cut-Off 2026: Category-wise Marks and Previous Year Trend
The UP Police Constable cut-off is the lowest normalised written score that gets a candidate to the next stage. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) publishes it category-wise, and for the 2025 recruitment (32,679 posts) it was released with the written result on 31 July 2026.
This page gives the latest category-wise cut-off, the previous final cut-off for comparison, and what these numbers mean for your target score. One point to keep in mind throughout: cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat past figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
UP Police Constable Cut-Off 2026 (Written Exam, Out of 300)
These are the normalised marks of the last candidate called for Document Verification and Physical Standard Test (DV/PST) in each category. A total of 76,184 candidates, about 2.3 times the number of posts, were shortlisted.
Category | General List Cut-Off | Women Cut-Off |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved (UR) | 258.03661 | 255.84346 |
EWS | 247.93434 | 247.35926 |
OBC | 251.63020 | 249.27083 |
SC | 239.34407 | 236.31995 |
ST | 220.10639 | 211.47988 |
All eligible candidates in the Home Guard, freedom fighter dependent and ex-servicemen categories who crossed the minimum qualifying marks were called for DV/PST, so no separate shortlist cut-off applied to them. Confirm the exact category labels in the official result notice, as the published PDF is a scanned document.
Minimum qualifying marks
Before the cut-off is applied, a candidate must clear a minimum percentage. Clearing it only places you in the merit order; it does not mean you are shortlisted.
Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|
Unreserved | 30% (90 out of 300) |
EWS and OBC | 25% (75 out of 300) |
SC and ST | 20% (60 out of 300) |
Previous Final Cut-Off (60,244 Posts, Result March 2025)
The previous recruitment, notified in 2023, filled 60,244 posts. Its final selection cut-off was released on 13 March 2025.
Category | General List Cut-Off | Women Cut-Off |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved (UR) | 225.75926 | 212.11992 |
EWS | 209.26396 | 193.20711 |

How the Cut-Off Has Moved
Comparing the two tables needs care, because they measure different things. The 2026 figures are shortlist cut-offs for DV/PST, while the 2025 figures are final selection cut-offs. A final cut-off is always at least as high as the shortlist cut-off of the same recruitment, since fewer people are selected than shortlisted.
Even so, the direction is clear. The 2026 shortlist cut-off for UR candidates is more than 32 marks above the previous final cut-off. Two changes explain most of this jump:
Fewer posts: Vacancies fell from 60,244 to 32,679, so the board needed far fewer candidates for the next stage.
Higher scores at the top: About 21.9 lakh candidates were expected for the 2026 written exam, against about 48 lakh applications last time. That puts competition in the same range, roughly 67 to 80 candidates per post, so the higher cut-off points to stronger scores at the top of the merit list. The board has not given an official reason, so read this as an informed reading of the numbers.
The gap between the general list and the women list also narrowed sharply, from about 14 marks to about 2 marks for UR. Women candidates should not plan around a large cushion.
What Affects the UP Police Cut-Off
Number of vacancies: More posts usually mean a lower cut-off, and fewer posts a higher one.
Number of candidates: A larger applicant pool increases competition for each seat.
Difficulty of the paper: An easier paper raises scores across the board.
Normalisation: Because the exam runs in several shifts, raw marks are normalised. That is why cut-offs carry five decimal places.
Reservation: Vertical (SC, ST, OBC, EWS) and horizontal (women, ex-servicemen, freedom fighter dependents, Home Guards) reservation each create separate merit lines.
How to Set Your Target Score
The marking scheme gives 2 marks for a correct answer and deducts 0.5 for a wrong one. At that rate, reaching the 2026 UR cut-off of about 258 needs roughly 132 correct answers with no more than 12 wrong. That leaves very little room for weak sections.
Aim above the line, not at it: A safe target is 10 to 15 marks above the latest cut-off for your category, because the next cycle may be tougher or more competitive.
Track accuracy, not just attempts: Aim for 90% accuracy or more in full-length mocks. Below that, the negative marking starts to cost you a real number of marks.
Do not leave a section behind: All four sections carry about the same marks, so a weak subject pulls your total down as much as any other.
To see whether you are close to your target, you can take timed UP Police online tests on Testkart and compare your scores with the cut-offs above after each attempt.
The official cut-off and result notices are published on the UPPRPB notices page. Always check there before relying on any figure.
