Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Assistant Professor
UPPSC Assistant Professor is a recruitment exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, relevant to aspirants preparing for teaching and education-sector recruitment.
UPPSC Assistant Professor recruitment fills teaching posts in Uttar Pradesh government colleges. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) runs it, and the largest current cycle is Advertisement No. A-7/E-1/2025 for 1,253 Assistant Professor posts in 28 subjects in Government Degree Colleges under the Higher Education Department.
This cycle is the first in which a written Mains exam counts towards final merit, so it works differently from older recruitments. The Prelims was held on 31 May 2026 and the Mains ran from 15 September to 1 October 2026. This page covers dates, vacancies, eligibility, fee, exam pattern, syllabus, salary and preparation, and it explains how this recruitment differs from UPPSC's separate Medical Education faculty recruitment, which many pages mix up.

UPPSC Assistant Professor Notification Overview
UPPSC released the short notice and detailed advertisement for A-7/E-1/2025 on 4 September 2025. Online applications ran until 6 October 2025, with a correction and fee reconciliation window until 13 October 2025.
The biggest change in this cycle is the selection method. Earlier UPPSC degree college recruitments used a screening test to shortlist candidates and then decided merit mainly through the interview. This time, the commission added a descriptive Mains exam, and final merit is built from Mains and interview marks together. The Prelims now works only as a shortlisting stage.
Keep in mind that "UP Assistant Professor" searches also bring up two other recruitments. UPPSC's Medical Education Department recruitment (Advertisement D-1/E-1/2026) is for medical college faculty, and aided (non-government) degree colleges recruit through the UP Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC). Each has its own advertisement, eligibility and exam, so check which one you are applying for.

UPPSC Assistant Professor Exam Pattern
Prelims (Screening Test)
Part | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
General Studies | 30 | 60 | 2 hours |
Concerned subject | 90 | 90 | |
Total | 120 | 150 |
The paper is objective and OMR-based. Negative marking applies, reported as one-third of the marks of a question for each wrong answer. For Mathematics, the subject part is reported to have 70 questions. Confirm both points in the official advertisement.
Mains (Descriptive)
Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Section A (short answers, about 125 words) | 10 x 8 marks | 80 | 3 hours |
Section B (long answers, about 200 words) | 10 x 12 marks | 120 | |
Total | 20 | 200 |
What This Means for You
Prelims only opens the door: Prelims marks do not count in final merit, so the goal is a safe qualifying score, not a top rank.
GS questions carry double weight: Each GS question is worth 2 marks against 1 mark for a subject question. Thirty GS questions decide 40% of the Prelims score.
Mains decides your rank: Mains is 200 of the 225 merit marks, so subject depth and answer writing matter more than anything else.
Older pages may still describe the screening-test-plus-interview method, so follow the current advertisement.

How to Prepare for UPPSC Assistant Professor
For Prelims
Master the subject first: The subject part carries 90 of 150 marks. Revise all 10 units at UGC-NET depth.
Do not ignore GS: Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day on current affairs, polity, history and geography, with some focus on Uttar Pradesh.
Practise under negative marking: Attempt only questions you can narrow down to two options or fewer.
For Mains and Interview
Write from week one: Practise 125-word and 200-word answers with definitions, examples and short conclusions.
Build unit-wise notes: Keep one page of key theories, thinkers, formulas or texts for each unit.
Prepare a teaching demo: Be ready to explain a core topic of your subject simply, as you would to undergraduates.
Pair them with UPPSC Assistant Professor previous year papers and UGC NET subject tests to cover the subject syllabus at the right depth.
UPPSC Assistant Professor Cut-Off and Competition
UPPSC has said that marks and cut-offs for this recruitment will be released only after the final result. Until then, the first batch of Prelims results gives a sense of the competition.

Geography | 46 | 4,316 | 1,130 |
