UPPSC Assistant Professor Cut-Off 2026: Status, Prelims Data and Target Score
The UPPSC Assistant Professor cut-off is the minimum score needed to move from one stage of the recruitment to the next. For Advertisement No. A-7/E-1/2025, which covers 1,253 posts in Government Degree Colleges, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has said that marks and cut-off scores will be published only after the final selection result. So there is no official cut-off for this cycle yet.
This page explains how the cut-off works in the new Prelims, Mains and interview structure, what the first batch of Prelims results shows about competition, and how to set a safe target score in the meantime.

How the Cut-Off Works in UPPSC Assistant Professor
This recruitment has two cut-off points, and they do different jobs.
Stage | Type of cut-off | Out of | What it decides |
|---|---|---|---|
Prelims | Subject-wise and category-wise qualifying cut-off | 150 marks | Who is shortlisted for Mains |
Mains + Interview | Final merit cut-off | 225 marks (200 + 25) | Who is selected |
Prelims marks are not added to final merit. Clearing the Prelims cut-off only gets you into the Mains, where the real ranking happens.
UPPSC Assistant Professor Cut-Off Status 2026
UPPSC started releasing Prelims results subject-wise on 7 August 2026, and the Mains was held from 15 September to 1 October 2026. The result notices state that marks and cut-offs will appear on the Commission's website after the final result. Any cut-off figure you see before then is an estimate, not official data.
Also check which recruitment a cut-off belongs to. Cut-offs from the UP Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) are for aided degree colleges and come from a different exam, so they do not apply to UPPSC posts.
Prelims Competition Data (First Batch of Results)
Until cut-offs are released, the number of candidates shortlisted per post is the best indicator of competition.
Subject | Posts | Appeared | Qualified for Mains | Qualified per post |
|---|---|---|---|---|
History | 58 | 5,915 | 1,108 | About 19 |
Geography | 46 | 4,316 | 1,130 | About 25 |
Chemistry | 87 | 2,487 | 1,369 | About 16 |
Economics | 61 | 2,198 | 1,119 | About 18 |
Military Science | 2 | 171 | 29 | About 15 |
Total | 254 | 15,087 | 4,755 | About 19 |
Two things stand out. Mains shortlists run at roughly 15 to 25 candidates per post, so most of the selection happens after Prelims. And the share of candidates who qualified ranged from about 17% in Military Science and 19% in History to about 55% in Chemistry, so crowded subjects are much harder to clear at Prelims. These figures come from the provisional result notices; verify them in the official PDFs.
What Will Decide the UPPSC Assistant Professor Cut-Off
Posts in your subject and category: A subject with many total posts can still have very few seats in your category.
Number of candidates: History and Geography drew far more applicants per post than science subjects in the first batch.
Paper difficulty: A tougher subject paper lowers raw scores and usually the qualifying line with them.
Negative marking: The reported one-third deduction per wrong answer pulls scores down for candidates who guess heavily.
New Mains format: This is the first cycle with a scored Mains, so results from older interview-based recruitments are not a reliable benchmark.
How to Set Your Target Score
Prelims: Aim for accuracy, not maximum attempts. GS questions carry 2 marks each, so a strong GS score gives you a cushion.
Mains: It carries 200 of the 225 merit marks. Consistent, well-structured answers across all 20 questions matter more than a few long ones.
Use mocks as your benchmark: Track your scores over several full-length tests and aim for a steady margin, not one good day.
