VITEEE Cutoff 2027: Indicative Closing Ranks by Campus and Branch
How the VITEEE Cutoff Works
VITEEE has no fixed published cut-off score. Vellore Institute of Technology does not announce a qualifying mark that every candidate must cross. What works as the VITEEE cutoff is the closing rank: the last rank at which a seat in a given campus, branch and fee category was allotted during counselling. Your rank decides which counselling phase you join, and by the time your phase opens, some combinations may already be full.
This page explains how counselling phases and fee categories shape those closing ranks, shows indicative ranks from previous years, and helps you set a target rank for VITEEE 2027. All rank figures here are indicative. VIT does not publish an official closing-rank list on its main VITEEE page, so the numbers come from widely reported counselling data, and they change every year.
Counselling Phases by Rank
VIT runs online counselling in phases, each open to a rank range. The 2026 ranges, as reported, were:
Phase | Rank range (2026, as reported) | Seat allotment (2026, as reported) |
|---|---|---|
Phase 1 | 1 to 20,000 | 14 May 2026 |
Phase 2 | 20,001 to 45,000 | 22 May 2026 |
Phase 3 | 45,001 to 70,000 | 31 May 2026 |
Phase 4 | 70,001 to 1,00,000 | 10 June 2026 |
Phase 5 | Above 1,00,000 | 20 June 2026 |
The 2025 cycle used the same five rank bands. For 2025, VIT was reported as stating that candidates ranked 1,00,001 to 1,50,000 were eligible for VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal only, and candidates above 1,50,000 for VIT-AP only. Vellore and Chennai seats were therefore effectively limited to the first four phases.
Phase schedules and rank bands are set each year. Confirm the 2027 schedule on the official counselling portal after results.
Fee Categories and Why They Matter
VIT offers each programme in five fee categories. Category 1 has the lowest tuition and the fewest seats, and Category 5 has the highest tuition. Because cheaper seats fill first, the same branch on the same campus can close at very different ranks across categories. A rank that misses Category 1 Computer Science at Vellore may still get the same branch in Category 3 or 4. Check the official fee structure for the current year before you lock choices.

Other Campuses: What the Trend Shows
Reliable branch-wise closing ranks for VIT Chennai, VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal are not published by VIT, and the figures in circulation are mostly estimates. The broad pattern across recent years is consistent, though:
VIT Vellore: Closes earliest. Computer Science and its specialisations fill within the first phase in lower fee categories.
VIT Chennai: Usually the next to fill. Computer Science seats in the lower categories generally go to candidates within the first two phases.
VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal: Stay open the longest and remain available to ranks above 1,00,000 in later phases, as the 2025 campus-eligibility rule shows.
Branch order: On every campus, Computer Science variants and IT close first, followed by ECE, then EEE and biology-linked programmes, with Mechanical and Civil open to the widest rank range.
Cut-offs change every year with paper difficulty, the number of candidates and seat matrices. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
What Affects Closing Ranks
Marking scheme: The move to +4/-1 marking in 2026 changed how scores spread, so score-to-rank estimates from earlier years do not carry over directly.
Number of candidates: More candidates push every rank band further down for the same score.
Seat matrix: New specialisations and changes in seats per fee category shift closing ranks.
Choices of higher-ranked candidates: Candidates who also clear other exams may decline seats, which can open seats in later phases.
How to Set Your Target Rank
Pick your realistic options first: Decide the campus, branch and highest fee category you are willing to pay for.
Find the indicative closing rank: Use the table above and the official counselling data when VIT releases it.
Aim well inside it: Target a rank comfortably better than the closing rank, because a small change in difficulty can move ranks by thousands.
Translate it into a mock score: Track your full-length mock scores and accuracy, and use the trend to judge whether you are on course.
