Good CBSE Class 9 study notes turn a full chapter into something you can revise in minutes. In 2026-27 every core subject uses new NCERT textbooks, so notes built on the older books can miss new chapters such as Sequences and Progressions, Introduction to Probability or Earth as a System. Whether you make your own notes or use ready-made ones, they should follow the current syllabus.
This page explains what to include for each subject, how to organise notes, a revision schedule across the session and how notes fit with practice tests.
What to include in Class 9 notes
Subject | What your notes should hold |
|---|---|
Mathematics | Definitions, theorems and their conditions, formulas, one solved example per question type, and common mistakes |
Science | Key terms, labelled diagrams, laws and formulas with units, experiment aims and observations, and reasoning-based points |
Social Science | Theme summaries, timelines, key terms, cause and effect points, and map locations |
English | Chapter and poem summaries from Kaveri, themes and characters, writing formats and grammar rules with examples |
Hindi and other languages | Lesson summaries, grammar rules with examples, and formats for letters, dialogues and notices |
How to organise your notes
One page per chapter: Keep short notes to a page or two so they stay quick to revise.
Formula and diagram sheets: Keep all Mathematics formulas and Science diagrams on separate sheets for the last weeks.
Error log: Record every mistake from school tests and practice papers with the correct method.
Map file: For Social Science, mark locations on outline maps as you study each theme.
Writing formats: Keep one model answer for each writing task type in English and Hindi.
Revision schedule
Same week: Make or read notes within a week of finishing a chapter in class.
Before each periodic assessment: Revise notes for the chapters in that test, then attempt a chapter or unit test.
Monthly: Revisit all earlier chapters once a month so nothing is left until the end.
Final six weeks: Revise from notes, formula sheets and the error log, alongside full timed papers.
Official and reliable sources
Build notes from the NCERT textbook first, including in-text questions, activities and exercises. Use the NCERT exemplar for harder practice in Mathematics and Science, and the CBSE curriculum for the list of chapters and practicals. The official subject documents are on the CBSE curriculum 2026-27 page.
