Homi Bhabha Exam Class 6 Cut Off 2026-27: Region-wise Marks

The Homi Bhabha exam Class 6 cut-off is not a fixed pass mark. The Greater Bombay Science Teachers' Association (GBSTA), which conducts the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition, selects students by rank. The cut-off is the score of the last student who made it into the top group of their region, medium and board.

This page gives the official Std 6 cut-offs from GBSTA's latest published lists: the 2025-26 written test cut-off and the 2024-25 practical-stage cut-off. It also explains how each cut-off is worked out and how to set a safe target for the 2026-27 written test on 28 November 2026.

How the Homi Bhabha Class 6 Cut-off Works

The competition has two cut-offs, one after each of the first two stages.

Stage

Who moves ahead

Score used

Released with

After Phase I (written test)

Top 7.5% of each region, ranked by medium and board group

Written test marks, out of 100

Level I result (20 December 2026 this cycle)

After Phase II (practical test)

Top 10% on the combined score

30% of written marks plus practical marks, out of 60

Practical result (15 February 2027 this cycle)

Two things follow from this. First, the cut-off is relative: when your group performs strongly, it rises. Second, students who miss the practical but score above 35 in the written test still receive a passing certificate. So 35 is the certificate mark, not the selection cut-off. The Homi Bhabha Class 6 exam pattern page explains each stage in detail.

Homi Bhabha Exam Class 6 Cut-off 2025-26 (Written Test)

GBSTA published a revised cut-off list in December 2025, after the Level I result. The figures below are the minimum written test marks (out of 100) that Std 6 students needed to reach the practical round. "NA" means GBSTA listed no figure for that group.

The highest Std 6 scores in the same list ranged from 64 to 89, depending on the group. Because this is a revised list, some sites may still show figures from the first release. Go by the official 2025-26 cut-off list on msta.in.

What the 2025-26 Figures Show

  • English medium, other boards had the highest bar: The cut-off was 58 to 65 in every region, against 48 to 56 for English medium SSC Board students.

  • Marathi medium cut-offs varied the most: For SSC Board Marathi students, the cut-off ran from 41 in Vidarbha to 57 in Pune.

  • Small groups behave differently: In some Marathi other-board groups, the cut-off equals the highest score, which means very few students were in that group. Do not use those figures as a target.

Homi Bhabha Class 6 Practical-Stage Cut-off 2024-25

GBSTA's latest published practical-stage list is from 2024-25, released in February 2025 after the practical round. The sheet does not print the maximum marks, but the scores fit the 60-mark combined score (30% of written marks plus practical marks) used to select students for the interviews.

For English medium other-board students, the interview cut-off was 39.4 to 44.4 out of 60, roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the combined score. A strong written score helps, but it cannot carry a weak practical.

What Affects the Homi Bhabha Class 6 Cut-off

  • Paper difficulty: A harder paper pulls scores down across the board, and the cut-off falls with them.

  • Size and strength of your group: Ranking happens within your region, medium and board group, so a large group of well-prepared students pushes the cut-off up.

  • Selection percentages: Only 7.5% reach the practical and 10% reach the interviews, so the cut-off tracks the top of the group, not the average.

  • Carry-forward marks: 30% of your written score is added to your practical score, so a weak written result narrows your margin at the second cut-off.

How to Set Your Target for 2026-27

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty and the number of candidates. Treat the figures above as a benchmark, and aim for a clear margin above the highest cut-off in your group rather than a bare pass. The targets below are Testkart's suggestions, not official figures.

For the interview cut-off, work backwards. A written score of 70 carries 21 marks into Phase II. To cross 44 out of 60, the top English other-board interview cut-off in 2024-25, you would then need about 23 out of 30 in the practical. That is why practical preparation should start right after the November paper.

The easiest way to know where you stand is to take full-length tests in the real 100-question, 90-minute format and compare your scores with the cut-offs above.
