This national-level examination, conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), is designed to identify and admit talented individuals from rural areas into the prestigious Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Currently, there are 661 JNVs spread across 28 states and seven union territories in India.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the JNVST, candidates must adhere to specific criteria:

  • Candidates should be from the district where a JNV is established.
  • Age limits are strictly enforced, and candidates must fall within the 9 to 13-year-old age group.
  • Rural quota candidates must have completed Classes III, IV, and V in a government-aided or recognized school in a rural area.
  • Urban area candidates are those who have studied in an urban school for any part of the academic sessions of Classes III, IV, or V.

Reservation Policies

The JNVST incorporates a comprehensive reservation system:

  • At least 75% of seats are reserved for candidates from rural areas.
  • Reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) are made in proportion to their population in the district, subject to a maximum of 50% for both categories combined.
  • OBC candidates enjoy a 27% reservation, over and above the reservations for SCs and STs.
  • A minimum of one-third of the total seats is reserved for girls.
  • Provision for reservation for Divyang children (Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired, and Visually Handicapped) is also included.

The application process for JNVST has transitioned to an online format. Interested candidates or parents can fill out the application form at no cost by visiting the official NVS website. Admit cards are made available based on NVS decisions, allowing candidates to download them before the examination.
