Maharashtra Police Constable Exam Pattern 2026: Physical and Written Test
The Maharashtra Police Constable exam pattern has two scored stages: a 50-mark physical test followed by a 100-mark written test, which together make a 150-mark merit. This order comes from the 2022 amendment to the Maharashtra Police Constable recruitment rules, and it applied throughout the 2024-25 Police Shipai Bharti. Each police unit runs both stages and prepares its own merit list.
The order matters for how you spend your time. A weak physical score can stop you from reaching the written test at all, while the written test carries twice the weight in the final merit. This page sets out each stage, the qualifying rules, how merit is calculated and what that means for your preparation.
Table of Contents
Exam pattern at a glance
Stage | Format | Marks | Duration | Counted in final merit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Physical measurement | Height and chest check | Qualifying | On the ground | No |
Physical test | Running, 100 m run, shot put | 50 | On the ground | Yes |
Written test | Objective, OMR, in Marathi | 100 | 90 minutes | Yes |
Documents and medical | Verification | Qualifying | Not applicable | No |
Total | 150 |
Physical measurement
Your height is measured first, and for men the chest as well. This stage is pass or fail. The 2011 rules set 165 cm for men and 155 cm for women, and a chest of at least 79 cm with 5 cm expansion for men. Confirm the exact standards in your unit advertisement.
Physical test pattern
Test | Men | Women | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
Running | 1600 m | 800 m | 20 |
Sprint | 100 m | 100 m | 15 |
Shot put | Shot put | Shot put | 15 |
Total | 50 |
Qualifying mark: At least 50 percent, that is 25 out of 50.
Shortlisting: Qualified candidates are called to the written test in a ratio of 1:10 of the vacancies in each category. For example, 10 vacancies in a category means 100 candidates of that category, plus anyone tied with the last one.
Scoring: Marks in each event depend on your time or distance, using the slabs in the official instructions for your cycle.
Written test pattern
Test | Subjects | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Written test | Arithmetic, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Intelligence Test, Marathi Grammar | 100 | 90 minutes |
Format: Multiple-choice questions on an OMR answer sheet.
Language: Marathi.
Qualifying mark: At least 40 percent. Candidates below 40 marks are not eligible for selection.
Subject split: The rules do not fix marks per subject. Recent unit papers have usually spread questions fairly evenly across the four subjects.
Marking scheme
Recent papers have had 100 questions of 1 mark each. The recruitment rules do not provide for negative marking, so a blank answer and a wrong answer both score zero. Read the instructions printed on your question paper and admit card, since they are the final word for your exam.
What the pattern means for you
Every question is worth the same: With 100 questions in 90 minutes, you have under a minute per question. Do not spend three minutes on one hard sum.
A guess costs nothing: If there is no negative marking in your paper, attempt every question, using elimination where you are unsure.
Physical marks are your entry ticket: Because only about ten candidates per vacancy reach the paper, scoring well above 25 out of 50 protects your place in the shortlist.
The written test decides rank: It carries 100 of the 150 marks, so in close merit lists one or two extra correct answers can change your position.
Pattern for driver and SRPF posts
Post | Physical test | Other stage | Written test |
|---|---|---|---|
Police Constable | 50 marks | None | 100 marks |
Police Constable Driver | 50 marks | Driving skill test, 50 marks | 100 marks |
SRPF Armed Police Constable | 100 marks: 5 km run (50), 100 m run (25), shot put (25) | None | 100 marks |
The SRPF physical test also needs at least 50 percent, and the written test for SRPF uses the same four subjects and the same 40 percent qualifying mark.
Final merit calculation
For the police constable post, the selection board adds your physical marks (out of 50) and written marks (out of 100). Holders of the NCC C certificate are eligible for five bonus marks under a 2022 rule amendment. Category-wise provisional selection and waiting lists are prepared from these totals.
Worked example: a candidate scores 38 in the physical test and 82 in the written test. The merit total is 38 + 82 = 120 out of 150. With an NCC C certificate the total would be 125. If two candidates have the same total, tie-breaking follows the government orders cited in the advertisement.
Time management and exam-day strategy
First pass, about 55 minutes: Answer everything you can solve quickly, starting with Marathi grammar and GK.
Second pass, about 25 minutes: Return to arithmetic and reasoning questions you marked.
Last 10 minutes: Check that every OMR bubble is filled correctly and fill any remaining answers.
For the physical test, arrive early, warm up properly and pace the long run instead of sprinting the first lap. To practise the 90-minute paper under exam conditions, you can take Maharashtra Police Constable mock tests on Testkart and compare your section-wise times.
Older pages may still show a 100-mark physical test with a 5 km run for district police constable posts, or a written test held before the physical test. Follow the current rules published on the official Police Constable recruitment rules page.
