State Government Recruitment

Maharashtra Police Constable

Maharashtra Police Constable is a recruitment exam for the recruitment of Constables, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.

Maharashtra Police Constable Study Material

The Maharashtra Police Constable recruitment, known locally as Maharashtra Police Bharti or Police Shipai Bharti, fills constable posts in the district police, police commissionerates, the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and prisons. The Director General of Police, Maharashtra runs it, and each police unit holds its own physical test, written test and merit list. The latest completed cycle is Police Shipai Bharti 2024-25, which covered vacancies of the calendar years 2024 and 2025.

This page explains how that cycle worked and what to expect next: eligibility, the 50-mark physical test, the 100-mark written test, syllabus, selection, previous cut-offs and a preparation plan. As of October 2026 no advertisement for the next cycle is on the official website, so use the 2024-25 rules as your working guide and check for the new notification.

Police Bharti 2024-25 notification overview

The state government approved 15,631 posts in August 2025 for vacancies of 2024 and 2025. Online applications ran on the official recruitment portal from late October 2025, and the last date was extended into December 2025. Each unit (for example a city commissionerate, a rural district or an SRPF group) published its own advertisement and vacancy list.

Three rule changes shaped this cycle:

  • Physical test first: Since the 2022 amendment to the Police Constable recruitment rules, the 50-mark physical test comes first and only qualifiers move to the written test.

  • One-time age relaxation: A 2025 amendment allowed candidates who crossed the upper age limit between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2025 to apply, for the 2024 and 2025 vacancies.

  • NCC bonus: Holders of the NCC C certificate are eligible for five bonus marks under a 2022 amendment.

Older pages may still show the earlier 100-mark physical test with a 5 km run, so follow the current rules on the official website.

You need at least 50 percent in the physical test. Qualifiers are called to the written test in a ratio of 1:10 of the vacancies in each category.

Arithmetic, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Intelligence Test, Marathi Grammar

100

The paper is objective and in Marathi. You need at least 40 percent to qualify. The rules do not fix marks per subject, though papers usually spread questions evenly across the four areas.

What this means for you

  • The physical test decides who writes the paper: Only about ten candidates per vacancy reach the written test, so a strong physical score matters.

  • The written test carries twice the weight: It counts for 100 of the 150 merit marks, so a few extra correct answers can move you a long way up the list.

  • Marathi grammar is a scoring area: It rewards steady revision more than most subjects.

Driver posts add a 50-mark driving skill test, and SRPF armed constable posts use a 100-mark physical test. See the full Maharashtra Police Constable exam pattern for details.

Selection process

  1. Application screening: Online applications are checked unit-wise.

  2. Physical measurement: Height and, for men, chest are measured. This stage is qualifying only.

  3. Physical test (50 marks): At least 50 percent is needed, and the top candidates are shortlisted at 1:10 per category.

  4. Written test (100 marks): At least 40 percent is needed.

  5. Merit list: Physical and written marks are added (out of 150, plus any NCC bonus) to prepare category-wise provisional selection and waiting lists.

  6. Document verification, medical examination and character verification: Then final selection and training.

Salary and career growth

Constables are paid on the Maharashtra state pay matrix, plus dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances that depend on the posting. The official Join Maharashtra Police page still shows a pre-revised pay band, so check the current pay level in the next advertisement. Any in-hand figure you see online is an estimate, not an official number, and it varies by city.

After training, constables can move up to Police Naik, Head Constable and Assistant Sub-Inspector through service and departmental promotion. Graduates can also prepare for the departmental PSI examination.

How to prepare

Physical test

  • Train on the actual distances: Time your 1600 m or 800 m and your 100 m runs every week.

  • Learn shot put technique: Good technique adds marks quickly. Practise with the regulation weight under a coach if you can.

  • Build gradually: Increase training load over 8 to 12 weeks to avoid injury close to the test.

Written test

  • Start with arithmetic and Marathi grammar: Both are rule-based and reward daily practice.

  • Keep a current affairs habit: Spend 30 minutes a day on Maharashtra and national news, with monthly notes.

  • Solve previous papers: Unit papers show the real difficulty level and the typical question mix.

Mock tests

From the second month, take one timed 100-question paper a week and analyse every wrong or slow answer. For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt Maharashtra Police Constable online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with Maharashtra Police Constable study notes on Testkart for quick revision.

These indicative figures are the lowest totals among general (non-parallel) selected candidates in one unit's provisional selection list. Cut-offs differ widely between units and change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat them as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them. The Maharashtra Police Constable cut-off page compares units in more detail, and unit results are on the official unit-wise recruitment results page.
