MP Board 12th Passing Marks 2027: Divisions, Merit List and Previous Results

The MP Board 12th exam has no rank cut-off. What matters are the MP Board 12th passing marks, the division you get, and, for top scorers, a place in the state merit list. The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) requires 33% in each subject, with theory and practical passed separately where a subject has both.

This page sets out the passing marks by subject type, how divisions work, how the merit list is prepared, and how pass percentages have moved in recent years. Past figures are a benchmark only. Aim well above the minimum, because college admissions and state schemes often use higher thresholds.

MP Board 12th Passing Marks by Subject Type

Subject type

Theory (max / pass)

Practical or internal (max / pass)

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Psychology, Home Science, Agriculture

Languages, Mathematics, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology

80 / 26

20 / 7

Every subject

33% of theory

33% of practical

These minimums are 33% of each component as widely reported for recent sessions. A high practical score does not make up for failing theory, and the reverse is also true. Check the 2026-27 marking scheme for your subjects.

Merit List and Toppers

MPBSE releases a state merit list with the main result, stream by stream (for example Science, Commerce, Arts, Agriculture, Home Science and Fine Arts). Rank is based on total marks out of 500 for the five main subjects.

In 2026, about 221 students were reported in the Class 12 merit list. Toppers scored above 97%, so a merit-list target means losing fewer than 15 marks across all five papers.

Score Thresholds That Matter After Class 12

  • State schemes: Madhya Pradesh has linked laptop grants and the Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana to Class 12 percentages; thresholds such as 75% (laptop grant, earlier years) and 70% for MP Board students (Medhavi scheme) have been reported. Check the current rules on the scheme portals before relying on them.

  • College admissions: many courses and entrance exams set their own minimum Class 12 percentage.

How to Set Your Target

  1. Secure every pass first: 10 out of 30 in practicals and 23 or 26 in theory are minimums, not goals.

  2. Aim for First Division with margin: target 70% or more in mock papers so a tough paper still leaves you above 60%.

  3. Use objective questions: they are the quickest marks to lock in.

  4. Track subject-wise scores: one weak subject can pull down both your division and your scheme eligibility.

Results are published on the MPBSE results page.
