MP Board 12th Eligibility 2027: Who Can Appear, Regular and Private Candidates

MP Board 12th eligibility for the 2027 exam is set by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) in its admission and examination rules for the 2026-27 session. In short, you must have passed Class 11 and be registered for the Higher Secondary exam either as a regular student of a recognised school or as a private (swadhyayi) candidate.

This page sets out who can appear, how the exam form is filled, what changes for private candidates, who can take the second exam in June, and the common reasons a candidature runs into trouble. Rules for each session are published in the board's admission and examination guidelines (Pravesh Niti) on the MPBSE website, so confirm any edge case there or with your school principal.

Educational Qualification

  • Class 11 pass: you must have passed Class 11 from a school recognised by MPBSE, or from another recognised board with a valid transfer certificate and migration where required.

  • Same stream: your Class 12 subjects follow the subject group you studied in Class 11. Subject changes are allowed only within the windows and rules the board sets.

  • Class 10 base: admission to Class 11 needs a Class 10 pass. For 2026-27 the board allowed students who passed Class 10 with Basic Mathematics to take the Mathematics group in Class 11, which affects the 2028 Class 12 batch rather than the 2027 one.

Regular Candidates

Regular students are enrolled in a government or private school recognised by MPBSE. The school fills the online exam form through the MPBSE portal, collects the exam fee and submits your details. The admit card is also downloaded and issued by the school.

  • Check your details: name, parents' names, date of birth, photo, subjects and medium on the exam form must match your records.

  • Correction windows: the board opens online correction windows for subject and personal details; in the 2025-26 session the window closed on 10 January 2026. Ask your school about the 2026-27 window early.

  • Attendance and practicals: complete practical records and internal assessment at school, because these marks are needed to pass.

Private (Swadhyayi) Candidates

Students who are not enrolled in a school can appear as private candidates if they meet the board's rules, for example after passing Class 11 or after failing Class 12 in an earlier year. The exam form for private candidates is filled online through the MPBSE portal or an MP Online kiosk within the board's dates. The 2027 time table applies to both regular and self-study students.

Private candidates still need to complete practical exams for subjects that have them, at the centre allotted by the board. Read the 2026-27 admission and examination guidelines for the exact conditions before you apply.

Second Exam Eligibility

MPBSE now holds a second board exam instead of the old supplementary exam. Based on the 2026 rules:

  • Failed or absent students: can take the papers they failed or missed in the main exam.

  • Improvement candidates: students who passed can reappear in chosen subjects to raise marks.

  • Registration: only students registered for that year's main exam can apply, through MP Online, shortly after the main result.

  • Marks: the higher of the two scores counts, and subjects cannot be changed.

In 2026 the fee was Rs. 500 for one subject, Rs. 1,000 for two, Rs. 1,500 for three or four and Rs. 2,000 for more than four, as reported at the time. The 2027 second exam is reported for 11 to 30 June 2027.

Who May Face Problems

  • Class 11 not passed: you cannot sit the Class 12 board exam until Class 11 is cleared.

  • Unrecognised school: exam forms must come through a school recognised by MPBSE.

  • Missed deadlines: forms after the final late-fee date are not accepted.

  • Mismatched details: errors not fixed in the correction window can delay your admit card or marksheet.

Fees and Documents

The board fixed exam, enrolment and affiliation fees for 2026-27 in an order dated 18 February 2026, and in August 2026 waived exam and admission fees for students who have lost both parents. Your school will tell you the amount payable. Keep your Class 10 marksheet, Class 11 result, Samagra ID and a recent photo ready.

Official rules are on the MPBSE circulars page.
