RPSC Junior Accountant Exam Pattern: Papers, Marks and Marking
RPSC Junior Accountant Exam Pattern Overview
The RPSC Junior Accountant exam pattern had two objective papers, both counted towards a combined merit list for Junior Accountant and Tehsil Revenue Accountant (TRA) posts. This was the scheme used in RPSC's last cycle, Combined Advertisement 08/2013-14, with papers held on 2 August 2015 and 4 October 2016.
RPSC does not conduct this recruitment any more. The latest cycle, notified in June 2023, was conducted by RSMSSB with a broadly similar two-paper written exam, so check the RSMSSB Junior Accountant exam pattern for the current rules. This page explains the RPSC scheme and what it means for how you split your time.

The subject-wise split of 25 questions each is as widely reported for this exam and should be read as indicative. RPSC's previous question paper listing confirms that Paper I and Paper II were held on the same day in each sitting.
Marking Scheme and Negative Marking
Correct answer: 3 marks per question.
Wrong answer: One-third of the marks for that question deducted, which is 1 mark (as reported).
Unattempted question: No deduction.
Qualifying marks: Minimum marks applied in each paper, reported as 35% in Paper I and 40% in Paper II, with up to 5% relaxation for SC and ST candidates. Confirm the exact rule in the current notification.
What the Pattern Means for You
Every subject is worth the same: At 75 marks each, a weak subject costs as much as a strong one earns, so avoid leaving any subject untouched.
A wrong guess costs 4 marks of swing: You lose 1 mark instead of gaining 3. Guess only when you can eliminate at least two options.
Paper II separates ranks: Accountancy, auditing and rules need exact knowledge, so strong Paper II scores pushed candidates up the merit list.
Time per question is about 1 minute: 150 questions in 150 minutes leaves little room for long calculations, so practise accounts problems for speed.
Final Merit Calculation
Merit was based on combined marks out of 900, among candidates who met the minimum marks in each paper. For example, a candidate scoring 290 in Paper I and 310 in Paper II has 600 out of 900.
Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy
First pass: Answer every question you know in about 90 minutes.
Second pass: Return to questions where you can eliminate options.
Final 10 minutes: Check your OMR marking and stop guessing.
Between papers: Rest and refocus. Do not discuss Paper I answers before Paper II.
Older pages may show a single 150-question paper or no negative marking. Follow the official scheme on the RPSC website for the 2013 cycle, and the RSMSSB notification for any new cycle.
