RSMSSB Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification and CET Rules

RSMSSB eligibility is checked at two points. The Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board, now the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB), first sets the conditions for the Common Eligibility Test (CET). The service rules of each post then add their own requirements when the board advertises that post. You have to meet both to be selected.

This page covers the eligibility rules for the 2026 cycle: educational qualification for each CET level, the age limit as on 1 January 2027, category-wise age relaxation and the minimum CET score. It also covers nationality, score validity and the conditions that can disqualify you even after you clear the exams. The facts here come from the official CET notifications, so check them against the latest notice before you apply for a specific post.

Two Layers of Eligibility: CET and Post Rules

Many candidates assume that clearing the CET makes them eligible for every post at that level. It does not. The CET notification states that the qualification, age and experience for any post are those laid down in that post's service rules.

  • Layer 1, the CET: You need the basic qualification for the level, the age limit and the minimum CET score. This lets you apply for posts covered by that CET.

  • Layer 2, the post: When a post is advertised, its own rules apply. A post may need a specific degree, a computer certificate, a physical standard or a language skill.

Being allowed to sit the CET is not proof that you are eligible for a post. The board checks eligibility separately at document verification, and an application can be cancelled at any stage if a condition is not met.

Educational Qualification

CET Graduate Level

You need a bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification. Under Advertisement No. 09/2026, the Graduate Level CET covers these posts:

Post

Service

Platoon Commander

Rajasthan Home Guard Subordinate Service

Patwari

Revenue (Land Records) and Irrigation Subordinate Services

Junior Accountant

Subordinate Accounts Service; State Agricultural Marketing Board

Tehsil Revenue Accountant

Revenue Accounts Subordinate Service

Supervisor

Women Empowerment; Integrated Child Development Subordinate Services

Sub-Jailer

Jail Subordinate Service

Hostel Superintendent Grade-II

Social Welfare; Tribal Area Development Services

Gram Vikas Adhikari (Village Development Officer)

Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Service

CET Senior Secondary Level

You need to have passed Senior Secondary (Class 12) or an equivalent exam. Under Advertisement No. 08/2026, this CET covers posts such as Clerk Grade-II, Junior Assistant in several departments and boards, Forest Guard, Jamadar Grade-II, Constable and Hostel Superintendent in the Minority Affairs department.

Final-Year Candidates

Students in the final year of the required qualification can apply for the CET. However, they must hold the qualification by the date set in the rules of the post they later apply for. Keep your marksheets ready, because the board verifies them before selection.

Post-Specific Qualifications

Several posts ask for more than the basic degree or Class 12 pass. Clerical and Patwari recruitments, for example, have asked for a computer qualification such as RS-CIT or an equivalent certificate. Some posts set physical standards, and some ask for knowledge of Devanagari script and Rajasthani culture. These details appear only in the post notification, so read it before applying.

RSMSSB Age Limit

For both CET levels in the 2026 cycle, you must be at least 18 years old and must not have reached 40 years on 1 January 2027.

  • Earliest date of birth: 2 January 1987 (without relaxation)

  • Latest date of birth: 1 January 2009

The age limit for each post is finally governed by its service rules. A post notification can therefore set a different age range or reference date. If no recruitment for a post was held in a year in which you were age-eligible, the rules treat you as eligible for that year's age. This benefit is limited to 3 years.

Age Relaxation by Category

The upper age limit of 40 years is relaxed as follows under the CET Graduate Level 2026 notification:

Category

Upper Age Relaxation

General category women

5 years

SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS men (Rajasthan residents)

5 years

SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS women (Rajasthan residents)

10 years

Widows and divorced women

No upper age limit (must be below the retirement age)

Ex-servicemen

15 years, up to a maximum age of 50 (55 where experience in a lower post is required)

Persons with disabilities

5 years

Rajasthan government employees in substantive posts

Upper age limit of 40 years

NCC cadet instructors

Equal to the period of NCC service

Rules to Know About Age Relaxation

  • Relaxations do not stack: The general relaxations in the notification are non-cumulative. You get the benefit of only one of them, not several added together. For persons with disabilities, the notification adds the 5-year relaxation on top of the relaxation in the service rules.

  • Rajasthan residence decides category benefits: SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS candidates from other states are treated as General category candidates, so the category relaxation does not apply to them.

  • Proof is required: Widows must show the death certificate of the husband, and divorced women must show the court decree of divorce.

Minimum Qualifying Marks in the CET

Under a Personnel Department notification of 3 August 2024, a candidate who scores less than 40 percent in the CET cannot appear in the written test or interview for any covered post.

Category

Minimum Score

Graduate Level (out of 300)

Senior Secondary Level (out of 240)

General, OBC, MBC, EWS

40 percent

120

96

SC and ST

35 percent (5 percent relaxation)

105

84

The CET notification also mentions a 5 percent relaxation in minimum qualifying marks for ex-servicemen and for persons with disabilities, where the service rules prescribe minimum marks. Confirm how it applies in the result notice for your cycle.

Remember that the CET score is used only for eligibility.

Nationality and Rajasthan Domicile

You must be one of the following:

  • A citizen of India

  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan

  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently

  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries to settle permanently in India

Candidates in the last four groups need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Domicile matters for reservation. Reservation and category relaxations are given only to residents of Rajasthan. A woman from another state who becomes a Rajasthan resident after marriage does not get SC, ST, OBC or MBC reservation and applies as General. She can, however, claim EWS if she holds a Rajasthan domicile and EWS certificate. Married women applying under OBC or MBC need a non-creamy layer certificate issued on the basis of their father's name, residence and income.

CET Score Validity and Number of Attempts

  • Three-year validity: Under a Personnel Department notification of 16 January 2025, a CET score is valid for three years from the result date.

  • Unlimited attempts: There is no limit on the number of times you can take the CET.

  • Best score is used: For any recruitment, your best valid score obtained before that exam is considered.

  • 2024 scores have expired: The CET Graduate Level 2024 score lapsed on 11 February 2026 and the Senior Secondary Level 2024 score lapsed on 16 February 2026. Candidates from those cycles had to apply again for CET 2026.

Conditions That Can Disqualify You

Meeting the age and qualification rules is not the end of the check. The CET notification lists conditions under which a candidate is not eligible for appointment:

  • More than one living spouse: A man with more than one living wife, or a woman who married a man with a living wife, is not eligible unless the government grants an exemption.

  • Dowry: A married candidate who accepted dowry at the time of marriage is not eligible.

  • More than two children: A candidate with more than two children on or after 1 June 2002 is not eligible. There are exceptions, such as twins from a later single delivery counting as one, and the rule does not apply to widows and divorced women.

  • Debarment: A candidate debarred from any competitive or eligibility exam cannot apply while the debarment period is running.

  • False information: Wrong details, impersonation or unfair means can lead to cancellation, debarment and legal action under the Rajasthan Public Examination Act, 2022.

Absence Penalty on Your OTR

If you apply for exams but do not appear in any two exams conducted by Rajasthan recruitment agencies within one financial year, your OTR is blocked. You can unblock it the first time by paying a penalty of Rs. 750. If it happens again in the same year, the penalty is Rs. 1,500. Apply only for exams you intend to take.

OTR Fee

Category

One Time Registration Fee

General, and creamy layer OBC and MBC

Rs. 600

Non-creamy layer OBC and MBC, EWS, SC and ST of Rajasthan

Rs. 400

All persons with disabilities

Rs. 400

Candidates who have already paid the OTR fee do not pay it again. Reserved category candidates from other states pay the General fee.

Eligibility Checklist Before You Apply

  1. Match your qualification to the CET level: Graduation for the Graduate Level, Class 12 for the Senior Secondary Level.

  2. Calculate your age on 1 January 2027: Add only the one relaxation that applies to you.

  3. Check your OTR details: Your category, disability status and home state flow from the OTR into every form and cannot be changed in the application itself.

  4. Keep certificates current: Category, non-creamy layer, EWS, disability (UDID) and sports certificates must be valid by the last date of application.

  5. Read the post notification: Confirm the degree, computer certificate or physical standards for the exact post you want.

  6. Plan for a strong score: Aim well above 40 percent, because the main exam competition is much tighter.

Always confirm the rules in the official notice on the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board website and apply through the Rajasthan SSO portal.
