UP TGT Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Topics and General Studies

The UP TGT syllabus has two parts. The larger part is the subject you apply for, such as Hindi, Mathematics or Science, tested at graduation level. The second part is General Studies, which the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) added when it released a revised TGT syllabus and exam pattern in August 2026.

This page gives you a working checklist for both parts, shows where most of the marks come from, and suggests a study order. UPESSC publishes the syllabus subject-wise as PDF files. The topic lists below are built from those PDFs and from questions asked in previous TGT papers, so use them as a planning guide and keep your subject's official PDF as the final word.

The subject part carries three-quarters of the marks, so it should get most of your time. General Studies is smaller but can decide your rank when cut-offs are close.

Key Changes to Know

  • General Studies is new: The 2022 cycle paper (held in June 2026) had 125 questions from the subject only. The revised pattern adds 30 General Studies questions.

  • Subject syllabi were revised: UPESSC released revised syllabus PDFs for TGT and PGT subjects in early August 2026. For example, news reports say the TGT Sanskrit syllabus dropped Meghdootam and Neeti Shatakam and added Hitopadesha, the second canto of Raghuvamsham and the first chapter of Sahitya Darpan.

  • Negative marking changes how you study: Half-learnt topics now carry a risk. Depth in core units is worth more than a shallow pass over everything.

  • Biology as a TGT subject: Biology had posts in the 2022 advertisement, but it does not appear in every list of revised TGT syllabus PDFs. Check the official syllabus page before you start if you hold a B.Sc with Zoology and Botany.

Older pages may still show the 125-question, subject-only syllabus, so follow the revised official PDFs.

Study Resources and Common Mistakes

The right material matters as much as the syllabus list. Questions are set at graduation level, but many of them test concepts first taught in school.

What to Read

  • NCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 12: These build the base for Science, Social Science, Mathematics and General Studies, and they match the level you will teach.

  • Graduation-level textbooks: Use the standard university books for your subject to cover analysis, literature or theory units that go beyond school level.

  • Official syllabus PDF: Keep a printed copy and tick each unit. It is the only list that decides what can be asked.

  • Previous TGT papers: They show the depth of questions and which units repeat across cycles.

  • A monthly current affairs source: Pick one and stay with it, adding Uttar Pradesh news and schemes.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Studying from an outdated list: Some topics were removed or replaced in the August 2026 revision. Check your subject's current PDF before buying a guide book.

  • Ignoring General Studies: At 90 marks, it is too large to leave for the last month.

  • Reading without practice: Mathematics, Science and grammar-based topics need daily question practice, not just notes.

  • Skipping small units: In subjects with few posts, one or two missed units can cost a place in the merit list.

How to Cover the UP TGT Syllabus

A 16-week plan works for most candidates who already hold their degree and B.Ed. Stretch or shorten it to fit the time left before the exam.

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, subject foundation: Cover your subject unit by unit from graduation-level books. Start a 30-minute daily current affairs routine.

  2. Weeks 7 to 10, General Studies and topic tests: Add history, polity, geography and UP GK in rotation. Take topic-wise tests in your subject after each unit.

  3. Weeks 11 to 13, sectional practice: Attempt timed sets of 30 subject questions and 15 GS questions. Start an error log that records every wrong or slow question.

  4. Weeks 14 to 16, full-length mocks: Take two or three full tests a week, analyse each the same day, and revise from your error log rather than new books.

Previous papers show how deep each unit goes, so solve at least two from past cycles before your mock phase. Download your subject's official syllabus PDF from the UPESSC official website. For dates, eligibility and vacancies, see the main UP TGT exam guide.
