Timed Prelims practice in the real pattern, with a clear plan for when to take each test and how to learn from it.

Page 1 of 3 — 31 tests

The UPSC CSE Prelims is an objective, two-paper test where speed, accuracy and the judgement to skip a doubtful question matter as much as knowledge. Regular UPSC CSE mock tests help you build that judgement before the Prelims, which the Commission's annual calendar schedules for 23 May 2027. This page explains which tests to take, when to take them and how to learn from every attempt.

Dates can change, so confirm them on upsc.gov.in.

How to Use Mock Tests

  1. Early phase: Take a topic-wise test after each subject, so gaps show up while there is still time to fix them.

  2. Middle phase: Add one full-length General Studies Paper I a week and short CSAT sets. Keep to the two-hour limit.

  3. Final phase: Take full-length tests in both papers, ideally at the same time of day as the real sessions, and revise only from your error log.

How to Analyse a Mock Test

A mock is useful only if you review it the same day. Sort every lost mark into one of three causes:

  • Concept gap: You did not know the topic, so it goes back into your notes.

  • Misread or careless error: You knew the answer but marked it wrongly, which is a habit to correct.

  • Skipped but solvable: You left a question that you could have answered with elimination or more time.

Track your accuracy, not just your score. A wrong answer in Paper I costs 0.66 marks, so guess only when you can remove at least two options. In CSAT, aim for a clear margin above the 66 marks needed to qualify.

For timed practice in the Prelims pattern, you can attempt UPSC CSE online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level. If you are still building your base.
